笛卡尔的想法不错，具体工作却做得不太好。斯宾诺莎则完美实现了这个想法。
斯宾诺莎最有影响的著作叫《伦理学》，在他去世后才发表。这本书的全称是《按几何顺序证明的伦理学》。
看明白了吗，用几何去论证伦理学（伦理学也是哲学研究的一部分），这不完全就是笛卡尔设计的路数嘛。等翻开这书，你肯定就崩溃了。
第一步，要找到公设对吧。
笛卡尔把一切都怀疑了，我们就必须找到一个绝对存在的、不可能被怀疑的东西作为公设。
既然这个东西绝对存在，那么它肯定不能依赖别的物体存在
斯宾诺莎把这种东西称作“实体”。
实体的特征是，这东西自己就是自己存在的原因，不依赖外物存在。这意味着，外物也不可能摧毁实体。否则的话，实体的存在就要依赖于“外物不去摧毁实体”，等于还是依赖于外物了，对吧。
既然实体自己是自己存在的原因，外物也不能摧毁它，那么实体肯定是永远存在的。用类似的方法，我们也可以证明出，实体是无限的，是唯一的，是不可分的，是善的。
如果实体是无限的，是唯一的，那么这就等于在说，世间万物，我们每一个人都是实体的一部分。因为只是一部分，所以是不完美的一部分。
这么一个永恒的、无限的、唯一的、不可分的'东西，你想到了什么？就是上帝嘛。
如果上帝不是实体，上帝又无所不能，上帝不就可以改变实体了吗？又和实体的定义不符了。
所以，斯宾诺莎承认上帝，但他心目中的上帝不是基督教或者犹太教中人格化的上帝，而是无所不在的实体。
简单地说，世间万物皆为上帝，我自己也为上帝的一部分，那么我与上帝同在，自然充满无限的力量。其他人即便与我作对，他们也是上帝的一部分，他们的行为也都是上帝的意志（这点和基督教是相同的）。所以无论外人如何对我，我都应该坦然接受。
复杂地说，实体永远存在，我属于实体，那么我也可以永远存在。即便肉体消失了，我也是实体的一部分。而且我和世间万物都是一体的。从这个设想中，我们可以感受到无限的力量和安全感，也就什么都不怕了。
再者，实体是善的，作为实体一部分的事物，即便单独看是邪恶的，它本身也是为了善的目的而存在，也是善的一部分。因此无论多么丑恶的现象，我们都应该宽容接受。
斯宾诺莎的学说大致如此。
顺便一说，这种人和万物一体的观点在中国哲学里很常见。中国很多学派都追求“天人合一”。比如庄子讲“天地与我并生，而万物与我为一”。北宋儒学家张载更认为宇宙万物都是一体的，所以我们侍奉父母，友爱别人，就相当于爱整个宇宙了。
佛教也有类似的观点。大乘佛教认为我们感官所见到的万物之间的区别，都是一种虚假的幻象。世间万物的本质是一样的，都叫“空”。这也可以近似地理解成万物之间没有区别，是一体的。
