有一对表兄弟相处感情很好，表兄叫临济，表弟叫元安，两人年龄只相差1岁，是很要好的朋友。这表兄弟两人的性格很不一样，临济遇事冷静，不爱虚夸张扬，性格内向、稳重;元安却好说好动，喜欢表现自己，性格外向、轻率。

说明文语言有两种：一种是生动活泼，一种是平实简明。基于说明文科学性这一特点，说明文语言的一个主要特征便是准确性。它主要表现在对知识表达上的科学性和严密性。
如表示时间、空间、范围、程度、特征、性质、程序和语气等都要准确无误。阅读说明文要特别注意文中怎样运用限制、概括等手段来修饰中心词语，从而进行说明的。要细心地捕捉这些词语，分析它们的特点和表达作用。对说明文中加点词语的作用的考查，主要是解答限制性词语的作用这类问题时要考虑从以下几个方面作答。
首先要明确加点的词语的含义；其次要理解加点的词语在句中的含义和效果，还要答出删去之后会有怎样的后果。比如“改变了原意”，“不合真实情况”，“与事实不相符合”，“与上下文失去照应”，“违背了说明文语言的准确性原则”，“说话过于绝对，要留有一定的余地”等；最后，总结时扣到突出说明文语言要准确这一点上来。
如《中国石拱桥》有一个句子：“桥宽约8米，路面平坦，几乎与河面平行。”问：加点的“约”和“几乎”可否去掉？为什么？答：“约”表示推测，说明8米并非实地量得，而是估计而已，是个约数。如去掉便成了确数，与事实不相符合。“几乎”表明并非真的与河面平行，只是差不多要平行，它强调桥面平的程度。如去掉，便成了真的'平行了，这就不真实了。
说明文语言的生动性表现在许多的方面。
（一）表达方式的综合运用。或描写事物状貌，语言生动形象，富有诗意，可增强文章的可读性。如《中国石拱桥》对卢沟桥的石狮子的描写语言生动，活泼有趣，引人入胜。或通俗或深情地议论，令人深思，启人智慧。如《苏州园林》：“因为依据中国画的审美观点看，这是不足取的”，这对说明苏州园林起到了画龙点睛的作用。
（二）修辞方法的综合运用使语言活泼清新。如《生物入侵者》一文把“生物入侵者”比喻为“偷渡者”“移民”，这种拟人手法的运用具有极强的感染力；《你一定会听见的》运用了大量的排比句式描写风声，按声音由小到大、由弱到强的顺序排列句子，一气呵成。
（三）句式富于变化，成语、四字句的使用都能使文章自然流畅，富有情趣。如《生物入侵者》运用了大量的成语或四字句，准确而简明。如“安家落户”、“在劫难逃”、“束手无策”、“物竞天择”、“为所欲为”、“无动于衷”等成语用得恰到好处。
