豺狼虎豹，都是凶猛的物种。
虽然很少见到豺，但人们对这种动物却从无好感。
豺狼当道，豺狼横行，豺在人类心里几乎是罪恶的化身。

豺分为十一个亚种，毛色大多数是棕红色的，身体比狗瘦一大圈，几乎可以见到一根根突出的肋骨。
别看豺的毛色是不显眼的棕红色，但豺背上的毛色可是五彩缤纷的呢！黑背豺、紫背豺、金背豺、银背……最名贵的就要算银背豺了，仅产于西伯利亚。
一条白丝带从颈部一直延伸到尾根，就像披着一条华丽的银带。
豺的耳朵较小，但听力十分敏锐，四肢也比较短，尾巴比狼尾大，但没有狐尾蓬松，尾长45—50厘米，体重15—32千克，吻较狼短而头衣宽。
豺虽然同狗、狼一样也是犬科动物，但是另成一属。
毛色是狗与狼都没有的红色，叫声拉长、凄凉。
可以说，最不像犬科类动物了。
豺作为一种十分神秘的动物，也有自己的生存法则。
比如苦豺制度，如果豺群去村庄捕食羊羔时有猎人和猎狗把守，这时，地位最高的豺王就会挑出牙口八到九岁的老豺或残疾豺做为“苦豺”把猎人猎狗引开，为什么会选它们呢？因为人八九岁时少年郎，豺八九岁时豆腐渣，老豺和残疾豺没有捕猎的用处后，就成了豺群的牺牲品。
等猎人和猎狗拖着苦豺的尸体回来时，羊群早就变成了一堆白骨。
豺群里一般有三十多只豺，最少的也有二十多只。
这么大的群体，睡觉排位可是个大事。
不用说，豺群的首领豺王占据洞内最温暖舒适的位置，旁边是豺母，也就是豺群中的王后，然后是捕猎优秀的四岁大公豺，母豺和幼豺……睡在洞口的，往往是老豺苦豺。
豺社会里没有尊老爱幼这一说，你老了，你没用了，你再等个一两年就去见豺阎王了，还不如在洞口为豺群遮风挡雨呢！也就是所谓的末位淘汰制。
豺的噬咬力是有限的，对付兔子、松鼠之类的动物当然不成问题，对付菜牛、野马之类的庞然大物，要用上别的动物都不具备的特殊的技能——抠肛门。
这听起来很不雅，却真实存在。
但这种捕猎方法只有豺王和三到四岁的黄金龄大公豺才可用。
如果面对一头牯子牛，牛皮厚而硬，牛头上张着锋利的尖角，可以刺破豺腰。
这时，几头大公豺在牯子牛面前或左右纠缠住牛，而另一只经验丰富的大公豺会跃上牛的背背，将一只豺爪从牯子牛的肛门里伸进去，在胃里摸到牛肠，用锋利如钩的爪子钩住牛肠，使劲一拉，热乎乎的牛肠被扯了出来。
再厉害的动物，肠子被扯出来，也只好成了任豺宰割的肉。
为因豺有这样残暴的捕猎方式，就连孟加拉虎遇见豺群，也会识趣地走开。

由于人类的偏见，豺一向不受人们喜欢。
几千年来人类把豺看作魔鬼，或"四足动物中的乌鸦”，几乎什么不沾边的词全用上了。
由于人类的大量捕，豺的数量大量减少，西伯利亚珍贵银背豺，上世纪七十年代还有约三千只，到了20xx年，仅剩不到四百只了。
二十世纪初期，愚昧的人类才突然省悟过来，开始保护豺这种神秘的动物了。
很多矛盾，很多流戮，都是由于人类的偏见而造成的。
