summer can be very hot in southern taiwan where the temperature usually goes up to 32"c or more. because of the heat it is a trying experience to go to school or do anything else in a place that is not air-conditioned. also because of this i stay at home most of the time during the summer vacation and only occasionally go to the beach to plunge myself into the cool water as a way to keep my body less sticky.
actually i like swimming and think nothing is more refreshing than a swim. in the summer vacation that has just ended i went swimming many times with my classmates and we all had a good time. this summer vacation, however, was not spent entirely in seeking fun. as a second-year senior student i had to prepare myself for the college entrance examinations that were only a year away. in other words, i must find time to study, too.
so i divided my time between work and play during the summer vacation and derived much benefit from this arrangement.

铺垫也称铺叙衬垫，它是为了突出主要的人物或事物而铺叙另外的人物或事物以作衬垫。运用铺垫写法是为了蓄积气势，是为了突出文章主旨。陶铸《松树的风格》前几段的大量文字浓墨重彩地描绘松树的形象，赞美它“要求于人的甚少，给予人的甚多”，又用杨柳、桃李同松树作对比，补充说明松树“给人以启发、以深思和勇气”，直到第九段作者才笔锋一转，点明题旨说:“我每次看到松树，想到它那种崇高的风格的时候，就联想到共产主义风格。”原来此篇前面对松树的描绘和赞美是铺垫蓄势，后面对共产主义风格的赞美才是全文的主旨。这篇文章正因为有了前面形象感人的铺垫，后面入题也才显得格外坚实有力。杜牧的《阿房宫赋》第一段极力描绘阿房宫规模的宏伟和建筑的壮丽;第二段极力渲染阿房宫中美女之多和珍宝之富;第三段夹叙夹议，论述秦王朝统治者穷奢极欲，大营宫室，招致国家迅速覆亡、宫室一旦毁灭的必然结果;最后第四段作者以“呜呼”领起，发出深沉的议论慨叹，指出秦统治者要能爱天下之民，国家就不会败亡，表明秦之灭亡乃是一个深刻的教训。这篇赋，前两段的描绘渲染，是为后两段的议论铺垫蓄势，描绘渲染是议论的基础，议论则揭示主题，突出文旨，这正是铺垫蓄势的用意所在。
运用铺垫手法须注意两点:一是要注意写好铺叙的那一部分，只有将这部分写充分了，才能有效地蓄积气势。二是运用铺垫要自然，如果为铺垫而铺垫，过多地堆砌，反会暴露出人为的痕迹，那效果就适得其反了。

the summer vacation had come round again. i was happy that i could forget about school at least for a while. lest i fool around all through this summer vacation, i made a plan as to how to spend it. first, i thought i should go over all those things my teachers taught in the previous term so that i could have a better understanding of them.
then i thought i should take up some forms of exercise, such as walking, running and rowing, to keep me physically strong. it stood to reason that with such a good plan i should make the best of my vacation time. i did, because i lived up to what i had planned.

早晨，走进教室，习惯性地抬头看了看墙壁上挂着：“用九个月的努力捍了三年的尊严。”
唉，离期中考试只剩13天了，快哉快哉，我心里琢磨着。刚坐下，板凳还没坐热，前排同学就转身对我说：“你知道今天是什么日子吗？”我想了半天，打趣地说：“六一儿童节！”同桌差点晕过去。他扶着头一脸无奈地说：“今天是倒霉日，离期中考试还有13天，谐音‘哆咪’，也就相当于‘倒霉’啦！”
“哟，思维这么敏捷，做几何题时，没见你这么厉害过。”我不屑地说了句，继续看书。教室里很静，只剩下写字声。
他仍在嘀咕着什么。他又突然问道：“你如果没考好怎么办？”这次老邬可要发成绩单给家长呀！学校还要开家长会，唉！日子怎么这么快，这么快就初三，这么快就期中考试，这学期已过半，中考越来越近……”我没听到后面他说什么，身后“唰”的一下，好紧张。仔细琢磨，我好怕，但还是打肿脸充胖子，说：“一定会考好的。”觉得不对，又补一句“你也是。”
同桌故做轻松，朗诵道：“考不好不要紧，只要成绩真，非我没考好，还有很多人！”我听了忍不住笑了起来，他又带有阿Q精神似的说：“天将降大任于是人也……”看着周围的同学，仍旧低头，书写着什么，他没趣地停住了话。我此时的心情被他的话搅得乱糟糟的，考不好，家长会怎么面对，怎对得起父母、老师……正想着心事，英语老师进来说：“马上要期中考试，我们要加快进度上课，可能有些快，希望同学们认真听讲，课余时间多记单词，努力再努力，期中考试考出好成现，你好，我好，家长也好，皆大欢喜。”同学们雀跃起来。
对呀！与其杞人忧天，还不如行动起来！
