南方地区春节喜欢吃年糕。年糕的名字起的好，寓意着“年年高升”。似乎多念叨几遍，以诚则灵。不仅听起来顺耳，吃起来味道也不赖。唇齿之间，能且嚼出南方稻米的天然醇香。而且，因其粘性大，口感独特。南方人家，大年30晚上，总要在八仙桌上摆一盘年糕，作为贡品。南方地区不仅喜欢吃年糕，还喜欢吃汤圆。汤圆又称元宵，元宵象征着合家团圆，吃元宵意味着新的一年合家幸福，团团圆圆!
当然，不管南方还是北方，桌子上都少不了鱼这道菜。鱼的做法各有不同，有：红烧，清蒸，煮，炸……寓意着年年有余，象征着人们的美好希望。

在春节那天，每户人家都是要吃糕的，糕谐音“高”，并且是蒸出来的，所以象征着蒸蒸日上。蒸糕是把面粉和水一起搅拌成不干不湿状后，上笼先给它蒸个澡，约20多分钟，有股甜甜的味道就会弥漫开来。
没过一会儿，糕就从热腾腾的笼里被爷爷小心翼翼地拎到了盘里，蒸完澡的它肤色由土黄变成了金黄。在吃糕前是要裁糕(就是揉成糕团的，那样蒸出来的糕才香糯可口。我的爷爷先将一盆“溃不成军”的糕粒反复揉捏，将它合成一块大糕。爷爷仿佛跟糕有仇似的，撸起袖子，手上抹了油，先摁了三下、又翻了个面、再压一下，周而复始，吓得那糕魂飞魄散，一下也不敢动。
经过一番较量后，一个椭圆形的大团子呈现在眼前，顿时变得有光泽，拿筷子戳一戳，它已经如橡皮泥那般富有弹性了。吃饭时用肉汤泡着糕，肉汤的肉味使原本无味的糕有了一层肉香，而糕也可以使肉汤不那么油腻，咬上一口，唇齿留香，可谓是两全其美、绝佳之配。
吃年夜饭时，自然少不了饺子，把面团揉成面皮儿，拿事先已经准备好的韭菜鸡蛋馅往上一撒、一掬、一捏，一个如银元宝似的饺子就横空出世了。刚出生的饺子白白嫩嫩的，和小娃娃一模一样。等兄弟姐妹们都到齐了，就都调皮地吵着去游泳。于是，妈妈把它们放进了“游泳池”里，怕水太冷，还浇了油、点了火，饺子们在水里自由自在地游来游去，快活极了。等它们都玩够了，妈妈就把它们捞出来，晾在盘子上，让它们也享受享受日光浴。可是不一会儿它们就又闲不住了，想看看我们肚子里的异域风情，我们自然是让它们如愿以偿，还为它们介绍了几位朋友——腊八蒜，和它们一起去观光旅游。下肚的蒜和饺子在嘴里留下了一股十分清香而又微辣的味道，令我欲罢不能，大饱了口福。
