He hurried up to the king and said:"Your Majesty, they don't think about the interests of the country at all.It is just because they are cowardly and afraid of death that they ask you to sue for peace by betraying the country. Of course you can temperarily satisfy the ambition of the king of the State of Qin is insatiably greedy. It will never stop assaulting us until our land is totally given away."Once there was a man whose house was on fire. People told him to put out the fire with water, but he would not listen. Instead, he carried a faggot to put out the fire, only to make the fire fiercer. That was because he didn't know that,instead of putting out the fire, faggots could only make it burning more vigorously. Isn't it equivalent to carrying faggots to put out a fire if you agree to sue for peace at the cost of the land of the State of Wei?"Though Su Dai's argument was very convincing, the king accepted the suggestion of those officials and gave away to the State of Qin a large area of the land of the State of Wei. For the king of the State of Wei was cowardly and only cared for peace at the moment.As might be expected,the Qin army assaulted the State of Wei on a large scale in 225 B.C.,surrounding the capital city Daliang and flooding it by digging open the dykes of the Huanghe River.The State of Wei was finally destroyed by the State of Qin.This story appears in the Historical Records Written by Sima Qian.The set phrase"carrying faggots to put out a fire"is used to mean adopting a wrong method to save a situation and ending up by making it worse.

说到这里，苏代讲了一个故事：从前有一个人，他的房子起火了，别人劝他快用水去浇灭大火，但他不听，偏抱起一捆柴草去救火，是因为他不懂得柴草不但不能灭火反而能助长火势的道理。大王若同意拿着魏国土地去求和，不就等于抱着柴草救火吗？”
尽管苏代讲得头头是道，但是胆小的魏王只顾眼前的太平，还是依大臣们的意见把魏国大片土地割让给秦国。到公元225年，果然秦军又向魏国大举进攻，包围了国都大梁，掘开黄河大堤让洪水淹没了大梁城，魏国终于被秦国灭掉了。
故事出自《史记魏世家》。成语“抱薪救火”比喻用错误的方法去消灭祸害，结果反而使祸害扩大。

1。 头绪分明，脉络清楚
写好记叙文，首先要头绪分明，脉络清楚，明确文章要求写什么。要对所写的事件或人物进行分析，弄清事件发生、发展一直到结束的整个过程，然后再收集选取素材。这些素材都应该跟上述五个“ W ”和一个“ H ”有关。尽管不是每篇记叙文里都必须包括这些“ W ”和“ H ”，但动笔之前，围绕五个“ W ”和“ H ”进行构思是必不可少的。
2。 突出中心，详略得当
在文章的框架确定后，对支持故事的素材的选取是很关键的。选材要注意取舍，应该从表现文章主题的需要出发，分清主次，定好详略。要突出重点，详写细述那些能表现文章主题的重要情节，略写粗述那么非关键的次要情节。面面俱到反而使情节罗列化，使人不得要领。这一点是写好记叙文要解决的一个基本问题，也需要一定的技巧。如：
One night a man came to our house and told me， "There is a family with eight children。 They have not eaten for days。" I took some food with me and went。
When I finally came to that family， I saw the faces of those little children disfigured （破坏外貌） by hunger。 There was no sorrow or sadness in their faces， just the deep pain of hunger。

3。 用活语言，准确生动
记叙文要用具体的事件和生动的语言对人、事、物加以叙述。一篇好的记叙文的语言既要准确、生动，又要表现力强，这样才能把人、事描写得具体生动，其可读性才强。试比较下面一篇例文修改的前后效果。

秋天，我领略到了奉献。不知道为什么，秋天虽然有高远的蓝天，清爽的气息，可那一片片落下来的黄叶总是让人那样的伤感。叶子一片片掉下来，像一片片悲凉的翅膀，积聚在空中，旋转、舞蹈，舞尽生命的力量，才落在地上，之后它们干枯，腐烂……可是到了春天，正是因为有了这些叶子，树枝上才会冒出新的嫩芽。踩在叶子上，那欢快的声音伴着脚下的柔软，让我感到秋天的.意义并不是悲伤，而是快乐的奉献，欣赏秋天，让我如此美丽。
冬天，我领略到了别样的美。冬天的夜，是淡紫色的，给人一种深远的感觉。而当你在屋子里突然听到一种有韵律的‘唰啦’的声音，请千万不要厌倦，因为那里，说不定正在下着一场雪，而你听到的声音，便是雪歌唱的声音。没错，每一片雪都是会唱歌的。伴随着雪在空中舞着，那轻轻的低吟声就是雪的一种美，可是人们在冬日往往只知道赞叹雪的纯洁，竟忽略了雪的歌唱。这不跟生活一样吗?看到的是美，听到的也是美。冬天教会我这个道理，欣赏冬天，使我如此美丽。
在春天的碧绿中用心灵憧憬希望;在夏天的花香中用汗水耕耘未来;我踩着秋天的落叶走向快乐;又在冬日的歌声中安然入眠。伴着岁月的更迭，我学着欣赏四季，四季也使我的心灵如春草般蓬勃，如夏花般绚丽，如秋叶般静美，如冬雪般安详。欣赏四季，让我如此美丽。
