Dear all,
I am writing this letter to express my gratitude to my parents for teaching me to be positive and to be strong. “Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all.” is the opinion held by Aristotle. It is the experience of our forefathers, however, it is correct even today, including my parenting.
It is widely acknowledged that parenting, which can also be explained as family education, is of great significance in our character forming and manner acquiring. To be more detailed, setting good examples instead of just giving precepts is the greatest achievement of my parents. They not only taught me to think for the best and prepare for the worst; they taught me how. They not only told me the benefits of being strong in mind; they proved it. All those things require huge amount of time and work, but it’s worth it.
Without my parents’ contribution and education, I would never be who I am now. But most importantly, I would never be more gratitude to them than today.

在今年全国两会期间，央视做过一期关于留守儿童的节目。湖南省慈利县零溪镇象鼻嘴村党支部书记向平华在接受采访时说：“现在我们天天谈幸福，什么是幸福?在我看来，幸福的最低标准有四个，那就是家里没有留守儿童，没有空巢老人，没有荒芜的田地，夫妻俩恩恩爱爱不离婚。”乍一看，这个标准再简单不过了，可这个最低标准，却让很多人感觉不到幸福。
我在一所乡村中学任教，所担班级的60多名学生中有50多人是留守孩子，他们有的是一年见一次父母，有的两三年见一次，有的更久。这些孩子性格孤僻，学习成绩差，也没把心思放在学习上，厌学，总想着早日离开校园出去打工。还有一些孩子缺乏爱心和交流的主动性，脾气暴躁，冲动易怒，常常将无端小事升级为打架斗殴。据2008年的一次社会调查显示，全国18岁以下的留守儿童大概有5800万;其中有4000多万留守儿童不足14岁。现在的`情况应该超过这个数字了。在这些留守儿童中，88%的孩子成绩都不好。有一次我问一个平时不爱说话的女生多久没见到妈妈了，她回答说两年。我又问：“想不想妈妈?”哪知她一听，泪水立马就出来了。
前不久的一个下午，我从广场边路过，看到广场的花池边坐满了老人，犹如电线上站满了麻雀，那场景让人惊诧。我数了一下，有60多个。他们在晒太阳，说闲话，打发时光。当时我就想，这些老人，有多少是呆在子女身边的呢?空巢老人问题不是一个简单的个人问题了，已经成为我国亟待破解的社会命题。中国目前约有7000万空巢老人，经历岁月的风化，他们青春逝去，往昔的峥嵘淡然翻过。他们想念自己的子女，却可能远隔天涯或因太忙碌而无暇照顾;他们向往沟通，然而朋友越来越少，圈子越来越小，渐渐找不到述说的对象;他们希望能够关注社会，参与社会，然而他们能做的也越来越少。孤独，寂寞，独自坐在家中，无奈地数着日子。
如今在农村，因为国家惠农政策的实施，荒芜的田地少了许多，不像前几年，许多入丢下地不要，免费任入耕种，而出去打工。这一点，现在有了大改善。可需要注意的是，现在留在田地里耕作的，大多是妇女和老人，他们文化水平低，这严重阻碍了科技兴农的进程。
说起离婚，我刚看过一个新闻，2011年河南省有11.5万对夫妻“分道扬镳”，这就意味着仅仅在河南省，每天就有300多个家庭解散。这个数字比前年增加10724对，增长了18.04%，离婚增长率远高于结婚增长率。一次离婚，从物质上看，损失可能不是太大，但从长远来看，成本实在是太高，尤其是对有孩子的家庭，单亲家庭对孩子的性格发展、家庭认知都会造成不小的负面影响。我所教的几十个孩子中单亲家庭的就有4个，这4个学生学习成绩都很差，始终排在最后几名。他们不爱说话，自卑，极其敏感，与其他学生关系也不好。
由此看来，幸福的四个最低标准尽管再简单不过了，可你我又拥有多少呢?问问自己幸福吗?没有留守儿童，没有空巢老人，没有荒芜的田地，夫妻俩恩爱不离婚，其实这里面包含的是责任与承担，是理解与体贴，是关爱与亲情，是勤恳与努力。让我们把握住这最低的幸福标准，去搭建一个家，去爱身边的人。
