Now the first thing I have to hasten to do is to write to you these few lines to express my deep regret.
I enjoyed many pleasant sights during my trip. I shall be pleased to give you an account to of them when I see you next.

郑?辰也去泼余子尖，我在一旁站了起来，去掐余子尖的脖子，余子尖也大呼小叫的叫着，其他同学没有像我一样和余子尖吵的，只有我、郑?辰和余子尖在一起互相大骂。我还去推余子尖，但余子尖始终没有还手。
余子尖，我真想对你说：“对不起。”但每当见到你，我就不敢对你说，心似乎受了控制一样，但是我在今日终于鼓起勇气向你说了一声：“对不起。”虽然雨依然下着，但是我和你的友谊地久天长。

I am terribly sorry to tell you that I have lost the valuable book you were so kind to lend me last week. I read it everyday and intended to finish it next month. But I am afraid it can never take the place of the old one. Old books are like old friends. Once lost, they can never be replaced. They are connected with cherished associations which the new ones can never have. And for this irrecoverable loss, I am to blame. I was so careless with my things. 在一则寓言里，有两个人和一头驴走在路上。这两个人是父子关系，这头驴是他们的财产。这故事很老，想必你已经听过，但都是从人的角度来讲的，现在我把它从驴的角度重新讲过。对于四足动物来说，能在路上走总比被拴在树上要强，何况春日融融，两个人都没有骑在它身上，所以它感到很幸福。我不知道驴子知不知道这样一句古话，叫做“乐极生悲”，但这意思它绝不陌生。走着走着，遇到一伙人，嘀咕了几句，儿子就骑到它身上来了。读过这则寓言的人必然知道，他们遇到了一伙农妇，她们说，瞧这两个笨伯，有驴不骑，自己走路。按照人的概念，这伙娘们是在下蛆、使坏。但驴子毫无怨言：它被人骑惯了。
文章写到了这里，我忽然想到要作点自我介绍。我现在是个自由撰稿人，过着清贫的生活。我的稿子发在刊物上，只有光秃秃的一个名字，没有一对括号，里面写着“美国”。基于这些状况，我和那头驴一样知道自己傻，写个文章也本分，决不敢起那种取巧的题目：“人眼看驴”，或者“第三只眼睛看中国”。闲话少说，让我们来讲这个故事：驴载着人往前走，又遇到了第二伙人，又嘀咕了几句，儿子就从驴背上下来，换了老头骑着。驴子知道自己傻，所以谁爱骑谁骑，它一句话都不说。
在寓言的原本里，驴子遇到的第二伙人说：瞧这少年人，骑在驴身上趾高气扬，让老父亲在后面跟着。人心不古，世道浇漓，到了何等地步。老年人的屁股硬一些，但对驴来说也没有什么。糟就糟在又遇上了第三伙人，这是一伙少妇，七嘴八舌地说：这个老头太可恨，自己骑驴舒服了，全不顾自己的孩子，让他拿两条腿来撵你们四条腿。从驴的角度来看，这话讲得没道理，什么“你们”?这四条腿都是我的!既然此驴不骑不可，谁骑也不可，两个人商量一下，干脆就一齐骑上。一只小毛驴，背才是多大的地方。老头骑着脖子，小孩骑着屁股。驴子难免要嘀咕：我就是傻，你们也不能这么欺负我。你来试试看，这让我怎么走路?
我既是个学究，就得读书。现在的书刊内容丰富，作者名字前面有括号的全是重要文章。有的谈新儒学，有的谈后现代，扯着扯着就扯到了治国之策。当然，这路文章的实质是和别人商量怎么治我们，这就和驴耳朵里听见人嘀咕一样，虽然听不懂，但准知道没好事。总而言之，我看到带括号的文章，满脊梁都是鸡皮疙瘩，联想到那寓言的最后一幕。
这头驴又遇到最后一伙人，这些人对骑驴者说：两人骑一头驴，你们想吃驴肉吗?从驴的角度来看，挨被吃肉倒也好了。骑在驴背上的`人跳下驴背，一个揪耳朵，一个扯尾巴，把它四条腿捆在一起，穿过一根大杠子，倒扛起来，摇摇晃晃地上路了。那驴头在下，脚在上，它又不是蝙蝠，怎能呆得惯。何况它四个蹄子痛入骨髓，所以大叫起来，但编寓言的人不肯翻译一下它喊些什么。我这篇文章要替驴说话，所以当翻译义不容辞——它喊的是：我得罪谁了，你们这么捏咕我!编寓言的人还编出一个寓意，是“走自己的路，让别人去说”。考虑到驴的惨状，真不知是何心肝。我的寓意却是：“闭上你的臭嘴，让别人走路。”当然，还有个寓意也说得通：别当驴受人捏咕，要当捏咕驴的人——就算损人不利己，起码也赚了个开心。但这种寓意只适于狠毒的人。
