10月1日是国际音乐日。1979年10月，在澳大利亚的墨尔本 举行的第十八届国际音乐理事会全体大会通过决议，确定每年10月 1日为“国际音乐日”，为此专门成立了国际音乐日组织。
国际音乐日的目标是:努力使音乐成为人类生活的基本内容，通 过音乐把各国联合起来。每逢国际音乐日，许多国家的电台、电视台 都安排特别节目，播放古典音乐、歌剧、流行音乐、民间音乐等。有的 国家还给有贡献的音乐家授奖，举行有关音乐的学术报告会等。
1980年10月1日，中国文化部、中央广播事业局、中国音乐家 协会联合举办了首届国际音乐日庆祝活动。电台、电视台安排了专 99音乐节目和文艺会演。同时，上海各音乐团体分别在文化广场、上 海音乐厅和其他剧场举行了11场音乐会，庆祝国际音乐日。
