在中国航天科技集团公司和中央电视台的支持下，中国航天系统科学与工程研究院（中国航天十二院）与央视中文国际频道（CCTV4）以高标准制作了专题纪录片《国家记忆（钱学森与中国航天60年）》。该片共采访了“东方红一号”卫星总体设计师孙家栋院士、载人航天工程原总设计师王永志院士、“神舟5号”飞船总设计师戚发轫院士、钱学森之子钱永刚教授等24位专家，拍摄了原国防部五院旧址、火箭研制厂、风洞实验室、钱学森图书馆等10多处现场，查阅了大量历史档案。
经过近4个月的紧张工作，顺利完成了所有拍摄和制作工作，将于10月7日20：00在央视中文国际频道播出。
该片共包括5集，分别是《艰难归国路》、《命运的抉择》、《长箭趁东风（上）》、《长箭趁东风（下）》和《巡天第一星》。该片形象地反映了在、周总理和聂荣臻元帅等老一辈无产阶级革命家的领导下，钱学森带领航天科技工作者创建中国航天事业和研制“两弹一星”工程等重大历史事件，内容丰富，史实确凿，画面震撼，情节感人。该片也是我国今年计划播出的、唯一一个纪念钱学森与航天事业60周年的专题片。
在同类记录片中，本专题片实现了多个突破：
首次反映了钱学森主动寻求归国的艰难历程。钱学森虽然具有优渥的科研生活条件，但是，为了回到新中国，遭受了多重磨难，最后想尽办法回到祖国。
首次展现了系统工程的重要作用。中国航天不断取得成功的重要原因之一，就是钱学森带领航天人探索出来的系统工程方法；该片反映了航天系统工程产生、发展和应用到社会经济领域的全过程。
