阿巴斯是一个穷苦农民，他为了养家活口，一天到晚干活。他老是想着摆脱穷困的办法。
有一个大热天，阿巴斯象平常那样在田里干活，他感到十分疲劳，就坐在树下，想：如果真主阿拉给我一种魔力，使我用手触到的东西都变成黄金，我就不用这么苦干了，就能过着满足而舒服的日子了。
这时，他突然听到说话声：“阿巴斯！现在你可以得到你所要的.东西了。只要你把手一放到任何物品上，它马上就会变成纯金。”
阿巴斯不相信自己的耳朵，但他还是从地上拾起一块小石头。当他的手刚刚碰到石头，石头就马上变成了纯金。然后，他又碰了一块石头，石头又马上变成了黄金。阿巴斯心里可高兴了，心想：我马上进城去，要把所有的灰尘和石头都变成金子，然后买许多田，在河岸上盖一座宫殿，周围都是花园。我还要买许多骏马，给它们穿上漂亮的衣服……
这时他想站起来，但感到累得要命，又饿又渴，他明白自己是走不动了。他想吃一点早晨从家里带来的东西，伸手拿了一块饼，但放进嘴里的饼却变成了金子，根本不能吃。
袋里还有两颗大蒜，阿已斯又去拿大蒜。但当他的手碰到大蒜后，大蒜也变成了金子。他是多么懊丧啊！阿巴斯害怕了，在这一片金子的世界里，他怎么生活呢？这样下去，他很快就要饿渴的，而直到那时，他不花任何劳动得来的黄金，还没来得及享受一番呢！
阿巴斯越想越害怕，突然，这时他睁开眼睛，看见自己是躺在树影下。明白自己原来是在做梦。他深深地叹了一口气，肩上好像卸下了一座大山。他自言自语地说：“光荣属于真主，幸好这一切都是梦！”
