记叙文主要的表达方式是叙述和描写。为了更鲜明地表现中心思想，增强文章的感染力，有时在记叙中也夹一些抒情和议论。
1、抒情：记叙中的抒情是作者在记叙过程中对所记事物抒发感情。这种感情的抒发有两种方式——直接抒情和间接抒情。
（1）直接抒情：就是作者在记叙的基础上直接倾吐自己的感情。
例1：
《我的老师》一文中，作者在记述了蔡老师的几件小事后这样写道：
“蔡老师！我不知道你当时是不是察觉，一个孩子站在那里，对你是多么的依恋！至于暑假，对于一个喜欢他的老师的孩子来说，又是多么漫长！”
又说：
“我是多么想念我的蔡老师啊！......什么时候，我能再见一见我的蔡老师呢？”（直接抒发了对老师的依恋、思念之情。）
直接抒情的方式一般用在叙述描写人物事件的基础上。感情达到一定高度时，有利于表达强烈的感情，感染力很强。
例2：
当我一次次的忆及往事，我无法把你的身影抹去；当我夜半醒来，我无法不为自己的无知而自责；当我远远地看见你时，我根本没有勇气上前和你打个招呼。也许你不能谅解我，就连我自己也一样无法谅解自己。忏悔在我心中已积得太多了，我这样表达出来，也许你根本就无从知道，但我也真心的希望你能够谅解我。你使我备受谴责的同时，也让我明白了诚信的重要。假如时光可以倒流，我多想回到从前，让一切重来。——01年高考满分作文《假如时光可以倒流》
（2）间接抒情：是通过叙述、描写、议论等方式抒情，这种感情的抒发是渗透在文章的字里行间的。
例1：
我看见他戴着黑布小帽，穿着黑布大马褂，深青布棉袍，蹒跚地走到铁道边，慢慢探下身去，尚不大难。可是他穿过铁道，要爬上那边月台，就不容易了。他用手攀着上面，两脚再往上缩；他肥胖的身子向右微倾，显出努力的样子。这时我看见他的背影，我的眼泪很快地流下来。 ——朱自清《背影》
例2：

2、议论：记叙中的议论，是作者在记叙中对所记事物发表意见，进行议论。有时以叙为主，偶发议论；有时边叙边议。议论，有时在开头，有时在结尾，或点明文章的题旨，或突出文章的中心思想，或揭示所记事物的意义。
例：
可是，诗人们都错了。“分明怨恨曲中论”，“公主琵琶幽怨多”，多情的诗人怜惜只身出塞的少女，却错解了昭君当年心灵的选择。
生命，不一定濒临亡才显示深刻，用心去做，用心去选择，谱一曲美丽的生命之歌。
