过了不久，公孙龙到燕国去见燕王，他带着弟子们上路了。走了一段，不料碰到一条很宽的大河。可是河的这一边见不到船，远远望那河对岸，却停着一只小船，艄公蹲在船尾正无事可干。
公孙龙马上吩咐那个刚收留的大嗓门弟子去喊船。那弟子双手合成喇叭状，放开嗓子大喊一声：“喂……要船啦……”喊声亮如洪钟，直达对岸，那对岸船上的艄公站起身来，喊声的余音还在河两岸回响，以致慢慢传到很远很远的地方。
对岸那只船很快摇了过来，公孙龙一行人上了船，原先那些不以为然的弟子深深佩服老师及那位新来的朋友。
