2014年奥斯卡外语片大战,泰国送上了一部由Nithiwat Tharathorn导演执导的电影《教师日记》。故事讲述了先后在泰国乡下一所偏僻的水上学校支教的Ann和Song因为一本支教日记而相识相知,最终走向相恋。虽有养眼的男女、烂漫的小童和优美的山乡景色,但平心而论,故事情节简单无奇,对于个人追求与社会责任、偏远山区教育等问题也是点到为止。一部放在好莱坞生产线上就是浪漫爱情轻喜标签下的电影,至多不过是票房讨喜,怎一经泰式烹饪,就变成了酸甜可口的佳肴,还可拿来冲奥,却是值得我们探究。

玩结构,不单调

在《教师日记》里,男女主角Song和Ann在电影的最后一刻才真正相见相识。当他们终于并置在一个画面中,Song还被Ann那句“萨瓦迪卡,宋!”甜得晕头转向时,影片戛然而止。鉴于前有韩国的《触不到的恋人》,《教师日记》里的“终于让我遇见你”只是个算不上创举的噱头,但是如何实现这个噱头,导演却下了一番功夫。

影片选择了双线叙事的结构,交叉讲述了Ann和Song先后在这里支教的经历。影片甫开始,就交代了两个没有“为人师表”样子的教师先后被“流放”到相同小学的前情,他们所面临的相似处境,足以让未曾谋面的他们产生冥冥之中的联系。当Song捡到Ann留下的日记本后,影片采用平行剪辑的方式刻意地将他们的支教生活展现为二重唱——Ann日记中的生活会再次在Song的生活中搬演,Ann和男友在争执中分手,Song也在周末返城时发现女友有了新欢,二重唱渐渐滋长出了同命相怜的味道。Song在日记里找到了共鸣也找到了,他学习着Ann的方法,当学生们写下正确答案后,Song奖励了他们和Ann小星星纹身一样的图章。

如果自始至终只是复调也未免单调,《教师日记》叙事手法的多样化也是值得称道的一点。双线结构中导演特别注意了故事的.推进和爱情的发酵,一场暴风雨过后,Song从重新描摹Ann淋湿的日记到开始续写日记,伴随着Song经历风波后赢得信任和自信的转折,这个设计就相当棒;而当情景交换,Song离校深造,Ann重回小学教书,则没有重复此前的平行剪辑,而是通过独白来描述她这一学期的生活——如果说此前Song是亦步亦趋地向Ann学习,那么此时Ann则像是对已经熟悉的老友娓娓道来,体现出两人“感情”的升温。总之处处可见复沓之中并非简单的复沓。

讲精巧,小清新

双线叙事除了会在上面提到的呼应上下功夫,还讲究转场。流畅的蒙太奇衔接起两人相似的生活场景,一些展现乡村生活景象的精彩镜头,都让这道泰式小菜更加可口。

有赖于蒙太奇的衔接,Ann的存在好像落在Song的时空中。一年前她在第一堂课上比划着动作告诉孩子们自己的名字,一年后孩子们同样用肢体语言向Song做了自我介绍;在展现他们带学生玩耍的段落,镜头横移、环摇、上升、下降,借墙壁、地板的遮挡切换Song和Ann所在的不同时间,却始终围绕着水上学校这个小小的生活中心,像一个一气呵成的长镜头。

除了靠技术上黏合起两个人的生活轨迹,导演也安排了结尾之前的三次“相见”,慰藉观众在画面中同时看到两人的期待:一次是Song在梦中遇见了Ann,因为没有见过她,镜头里只有她手臂上那个凭此相认的星星刺青,另一次是在校长那里见到过Song照片的Ann,想象起和Song一起站在讲台上的场景,在两次的梦境/想象之间,还夹着一场Song去寻找Ann时相见不相识的戏,实际上也是对称而不重复。所以最后的水到渠成,可真应了墨镜王那句“世间所有的相遇,都是久别重逢”。

可圈可点的漂亮元素对于小清新也必不可少。俊男靓女和天真幼童的人物组合,串连起全片爱情线的手绘日记本和小星星纹身,都带有相当的偶像剧色彩;独有的湖光山色,更在Song坐船飞驰过湖面去接学生、拖拽着水上学校模仿火车的前进等几场戏里体现的淋漓尽致。至于水管子里流出的蜥蜴和湖上的浮尸,没点意外的重口味,好像是缺了酸虾的刺激,怎能算独特的泰式口感呢。

不过,支线剧情的狗,以及坚持自我、坚守责任等并不新鲜也不深入的理念阐释,导致了影片格局不大,让我觉得真正触动人心的泰国,还得是2010年送评最佳外语片的阿彼察邦导演,能让人一窥热带的神秘气息。
