春秋战国时期百将争鸣，出现了哲学思想出现鼎盛时代。其中儒、墨、道、法是代表思想学派。先秦儒家哲学的智慧始终始终是我们中华民族思想文化传承的根本大源，很多人认为天命论是儒家思想中的垃圾，其实天命论至少在我们看到的字面意思之外，还有深刻的'历史文化背景和丰富的人文主义内涵。儒家学派的“人性论”、“人格修养论”、“认证学说“以及人格修养论都是哲学思想中的精华。老子、庄子与道家的自然之趣，以老庄为代表的道家哲学，一言以蔽之，就是“道论”，即关于“道”的学说。道是哲学的核心范畴，道家的细想体系均围绕道而展开。道家的哲学思想自始至终透露出一种自然而然、顺其自然、自由自在的放达情趣。道家思想包括道论、辩证法和认识论、社会政治论、人生价值论、人生修养论。其实，道家思想的精华无疑在于其对理想人格和理想人生境界的追求。相比较儒家内圣外王、建功立业、济世救民的人世精神，道家的人生哲学则表现出独善其身、超然物外、一任自然的精神风采。春秋战国时期百花齐放百家争鸣，哲学思想流光溢彩，像墨家的兼爱非攻、法家的君主集权思想等等就不一一举例了。
秦汉大一统是中国历史时代的转变。天下的统一、不仅在历史上掀开了新的一页，思想视角也发生了变化。这个时期思想的重点在于重新书写历史、空间与天人之间的关系。在长期分裂与战争以后，中国在政治和学术上趋向统一。因此，寻求稳定、统一的政治格局与生活世界成为汉代思想的主流。汉代早起提倡“休养生息”主要以老子的“无为”思想为主导。汉武帝时期董仲舒提出了“罢黜百家独尊儒术”的思想受到采纳，他以儒学汇通先秦诸子，创造了一个“大一统”的庞大哲学体系。
魏晋时期出现了玄学，魏晋玄学扮演了两汉经学终结者的角色。魏晋玄学的最大特点就是“清淡”，不谈国事、不言民生。魏晋之后又出现了佛教、道家思想的演变。
程朱理学的发展以及黄宗羲、王夫之的近代思想也都是中国这些思想上的代表。近代以来，殖民者用大炮打开中国大门，使得中国社会环境发生巨大的变化，古代哲学思想也受之影响开始转型。向后出现了”师夷长技以制夷“、”物尽天择，适者生存“等思想。也出现了梁启超的“新民说”，中国向何处去？怎样才能救中国？，梁启超不仅在思想上探索新路，而且借助现代报刊向世人传播学说。
中国民族五千年的精神结晶是伟大的历史成就，是中华民族一贯有的爱智慧的传统。
