妻子见丈夫并没赶两个孩子走的'意思，这下才松了一口气。从此以后他们虽然生活的并不富裕，但一家人过的十分幸福(包括两个孩子。
白天丈夫打鱼妻子干活，日子过的十分节俭。7个孩子见父母如此辛苦而自己却天天在家玩心理很不是滋味。随着年龄日益增长，7个孩子决定外出打工。
第二天，7个孩子天还没亮就起床了告诉妈妈他们要去玩，妈妈同意了。几个孩子慢跑去了县城。他们决定去帮人运或(运一带米1分钱，就在这天他们挣了2角钱。晚上回家便把2角钱给了妈妈。妈妈很好奇问：“你们那里的钱。”他们怕告诉妈妈，妈妈会不让他们去干活，便撒慌说是捡的。日复一日，孩子们几乎每天都要“捡”1.2角回来，妈妈决的很奇怪，便决定明天跟孩子们出去。啊!孩子们正给那些人作苦力。妈妈立刻泪水模糊了视线。妈妈飞奔过去抱着几个孩子哭了。
由于经济实在撑不住了，父母决定送走一个孩子，但送谁呢?父母思量着。当孩子得知此消息后就加倍工作希望不要送走他们其中一个。这一切的一切感动了父母后来决定就算今后再苦也要把孩子养大。
