如冰心的《小桔灯》中的小桔灯象征了光明和胜利，象征着小姑娘镇定、勇敢、乐观的精神。
如矛盾的《白杨礼赞》细致描写了黄土高原上白杨树枝干笔直、叶子片片向上的形象，表现了它的倔强、挺立、不屈不挠，从而象征了华北农民质朴、严肃、坚强不屈、力求上进的精神和意志。
再如高尔基的散文诗《海燕》，用象征手法构思全文，赋予高傲飞翔的海燕以革命先驱者的象征意义，使作品意义更深远。

注：
1、注意写作方法与修辞方法的区别。
①、着眼点不同。表现手法一般着眼于文章整体的构思，笼罩于全文或几个段落，修辞方法则着眼于具体的语句；
②、作用对象不同。表现手法直接为表现人物、突出主题服务，而修辞方法则直接服务于语言，使其更具感情色彩。
2、注意在把握主题的前提下理解写作方法的作用。
主题是文章的灵魂和统帅，恰当运用表现手法就是为突出主题，为表现人物服务，所以要理解手法的作用，首先要准确理解文章立意，不要脱离文章去“背”作用。
3、注意考虑各种手法并用。
一篇文章可以采用多种手法，阅读时先考虑文章整体，然后再深入段落。如《心田上的百合花》。
4、注意写作中运用手法要有必要和恰当。
写作应是情感自然流泻的过程，表现手法的运用也应是水到渠成，非刻意去为，有必要才用，用也要恰当，否则只会弄巧成拙。
