1、吃春菜
昔日四邑有个不成节的习俗，叫做“春分吃春菜”。“春菜”是一种野苋菜，乡人称之为“春碧蒿”。逢春分那天，全村人都去采摘春菜。在田野中搜寻时，多见是嫩绿的，细细棵，约有巴掌那样长短。采回的春菜一般家里与鱼片“滚汤”，名曰“春汤”。有顺口溜道：“春汤灌脏，洗涤肝肠。阖家老少，平安健康。”，慢慢地这也成了一个习俗。一年自春，人们祈求的还是家宅安宁，身壮力健。
2、萝卜
扬州人还有春分吃萝卜或萝卜丝馅的包子、春卷的风俗。这时吃萝卜不但能上下通气，还能起到去疾病、解春困的功效。
春季养生保健的各种蔬菜中，效果最好的当属萝卜。白萝卜具有清热生津、理气、消食化痰的作用，生吃偏于清热生津，煮熟偏于行气消食，春季食用，可用来防治痰多咳嗽、咽痛、伤食腹胀、便秘等病状。现代医学认为，萝卜有很好的利尿效果，所含的纤维素也可促进排便，利于减肥。如果想利用萝卜来排毒，可以选择生食，打成汁或凉拌、腌渍均可。
民间认为“萝卜头辣、尾燥、腰正好”，专家也提醒，萝卜分段吃，营养各不同：萝卜的顶部含维生素C最多，宜爆炒和煮汤;中间段含糖量较高，可切丝凉拌;尾部辛辣，含淀粉酶和芥子油，适宜腌拌……平时家里人少时一根大萝卜一次吃不完，可以竖着剖开吃一半，这样萝卜的头、腰、尾都在菜里，营养均衡。

吃饺子
祭灶节，民间讲究吃饺子，取意“送行饺子迎风面”。山区多吃糕和荞面。晋东南地区，流行吃炒玉米的习俗，民谚有“二十三，不吃炒，大年初一一锅倒”的说法。人们喜欢将炒玉米用麦芽糖粘结起来，冰冻成大块，吃起来酥脆香甜。旧时，不论贫富，只要是顶门成家过日子，就要在锅台上边的墙上，供奉灶王爷的尊像，在像的两边贴幅：“上天言好事，下界保平按。”每家都把灶王爷奉为神明，由它来主宰一家兴衰祸福，由于四季常住灶间，察看一家人的活动，自然成为“一家之主”。
吃灶糖
灶糖是一种又粘嘴又粘牙的麦芽糖，把它抽为长条型的糖棍称为"关东糖"，拉制成扁圆型就叫做"糖瓜"。冬天把它放在屋外，因为天气严寒，糖瓜凝固得坚实而里边又有些微小的气泡，吃起来脆甜香酥，别有风味。真关东糖坚硬无比，摔不碎，吃时必须用菜刀劈开，质料很重很细。口味微酸，中间绝没有蜂窝，每块重一两、二两、四两，价格也较贵一些。
关东糖
关东糖又称灶王糖、大块糖。一年之中，只有在小年前后才有出售。关东糖是用麦芽、小米熬制而成的糖制品，它是祭灶神用的。清人写的《燕京岁时记》中记载：清代祭灶，供品中就有“关东糖”、“糖饼”。关东糖在东北的农村、城市里，大街小巷、街市上，都有小贩叫卖：“大块糖，大块糖，又酥又香的大块糖。”乳白色的大块糖，放在方盘上，一般有三寸长，一寸宽，扁平，呈丝条状。新做的大块糖，放在嘴里一咬，又酥又香，有粘性，有一种特殊风味，是关东男女老少都十分喜爱的一种糖。它已从灶王爷的祭桌上走下来，广为百姓享用。
吃糖瓜
糖瓜分有芝麻的和没芝麻的两种，用糖做成甜瓜形或北瓜形，中心是空的，皮厚不及五分，虽大小不同，但成交仍以分量计算，大的糖瓜有重一二斤的，不过用作幌子，买的人很少。祭灶供灶糖的原因，是为了粘住灶爷的嘴巴。传说灶爷是玉帝派往人间监督善恶之神，它有上通下达，联络天上人间感情，传递仙境与凡间信息的职责。在它上天之时，人们供它灶糖，希望它吃过甜食，在玉帝面前多进好言。也有人说，祭灶用灶糖，并非粘灶爷的嘴，而是粘嘴馋好事、爱说闲话的灶君奶奶的嘴。

在中原地带腊月二十三是很隆重的节日，这一天一大早人们就要打扫房子，扫净灰尘，还要用湿毛巾擦除房内的中堂画，和各种装饰画，把室内外打扫干净，然后祭灶，祭灶除了要用祭灶糖，还要烙葱花油饼，放鞭炮，祭灶糖是用白糖熬成糖稀，拌上炒熟的芝麻，或者苋菜籽，还有吹出的中间空心上面占满了芝麻很香很甜的祭灶糖，这一天灶王上天去回报人们在这一年中的行为善恶，玉皇大帝便根据灶王的回报，决定奖善罚恶的度数，如此规范人们的行为，虽为可笑，但不缺乏心理的暗示作用，是中国民俗中重要的传统文化。但也有不贴灶神的地方，比如中国四大名镇的朱仙镇就很少贴灶王，据说过去这里的人也是贴灶王的，只是人们年年用灶糖封住灶王的嘴，便觉得有了灶王的蔽护，可以为所欲为，商人们偷工减料，以次充好，连饭馆饮食也不足量，有一年，玉皇大帝到这里看门神会，看到人间饭馆内座无虚席，便也想吃饭享受人间烟火，他买了一碗面，却发现四两面竟只有几根，于是他很生气，回到天宫命火神祝融前来访查，火神到这里来化成一个老汉，沿街叫卖火烧：“换火烧十六两的小火烧，十五两的大火烧，”镇上那些爱占小便宜的一听拿少的可以换大的，纷至沓来换取火烧。

summer can be very hot in southern taiwan where the temperature usually goes up to 32"c or more. because of the heat it is a trying experience to go to school or do anything else in a place that is not air-conditioned. also because of this i stay at home most of the time during the summer vacation and only occasionally go to the beach to plunge myself into the cool water as a way to keep my body less sticky.
actually i like swimming and think nothing is more refreshing than a swim. in the summer vacation that has just ended i went swimming many times with my classmates and we all had a good time. this summer vacation, however, was not spent entirely in seeking fun. as a second-year senior student i had to prepare myself for the college entrance examinations that were only a year away. in other words, i must find time to study, too.
so i divided my time between work and play during the summer vacation and derived much benefit from this arrangement.
