可虽然人口的不断增长给环境带来巨大影响，但是人类对于地球也是不可或缺的。以新余为例，假如生活在新余的人类突然消失，新余将会是什么样?科学家们用技术手段，向人们展示了人类在新余消失的景象：人类消失一周后，新钢储存煤气的两个巨型煤气罐将发生灾难，剧烈的温度导致罐体爆炸，你能想象两栋20多层楼高的罐体爆炸吗?这将导致一场熊熊大火，如果没有人类的存在，这场大火会持续一个多月，加上氧气管的泄漏，其他工厂的可燃液体、气体的泄漏，最终会使新余化为灰烬。这说明人类与环境是相依相存，不可分离的，同时又互相影响，因此我们不能一概地把错误归结于人类，要看到人类对整个地球的重要性，我们不更应该爱护这没好的家园吗?
在这样的背景下，要处理好人口与环境的关系，一是要处理开发与保护并重的关系，二是正确处理人口与资源相适应的关系。从大局来看，解决人口与环境的重点在于实施可持续发展战略与提高新余地区科学技术的整体水平，新余的人均资源占有量少、环境持续破坏，导致原先着有“江西省的一颗璀璨明珠”称号的新余，如今已大不如前，因此我们更应处理好人口与环境的关系。过去邓小平鼓励一部分人先富起来，带动他人致富，现在我们新余也可以鼓励一部分技术先发展起来，加上人口多，即劳动力多的优势，带动其它项目的科技发展，到那时，建成美丽新余的追求指日可待。
从个人来看，我们应在生活中做到降低能耗、节能减排，做一些力所能及的事情，为节能减排做出一份低碳的生活方式，这些都是我们力所能及的。
