So the sun hid behind a cloud, and the wind began to blow as hard as it could. As the wind blew harder, the traveler wrapped his coat more closely around himself.
Then the sun came out. He shone on the traveler. The traveler soon felt quite hot, and took off his coat.

1948年，董存瑞所在的解放军准备攻打热河的隆化。敌人在隆化城周围修建了许多碉堡，他们躲在碉堡里向外扫射，使我们部队无法前进。只要炸掉这些碉堡，解放军才能前进。经过了深思熟虑之后，连长决定把这个光荣而艰巨的任务交给了董存瑞带领的爆破组，命令他们炸掉隆化城北边的，火力异常凶猛的4个炮楼和5个碉堡。
董存瑞的机枪，像一阵飓风，突然刮起来了。开路先锋的爆破组，就碠股火力的掩护下出动了。董存瑞挟起炸药，一挥手，就冲向前方去了。战友郑顺义和其他几个队员也冲了出去。
就要接近碉堡的.时候，敌人的火力集中在了董存瑞的身边，他趴在地上，向四周望了一下，四周被子弹打得尘土飞扬。敌人见他不动，以为他了。就在这时，他向突击队组长郑顺义一挥手，把便领会了，投了两颗手榴弹，响声一起董存瑞便冲了上去。冲到碉堡前，敌人的机枪咯咯地响起来，他机警地伏在两个枪口的中间，机枪震动得他微微抖动。他快速地把炸药放在碉堡上，拉响了导火线，翻身滚下来。只听山崩地裂的一声响，第一个碉堡被炸飞了，紧接着，董存瑞跑到第二个碉堡，当敌人发现时，他已把炸药拉响了，战友孙有德也把第三个碉堡炸飞了，紧接着三声巨响，我军的冲锋号响起，吓得敌人逃都逃不了。
战士们越来越接近隆化中学时，敌人的冲锋枪像在风暴雨般打来。把我们压了下来，部队无法前进。仔细观察，发现机枪是从桥上打来的，桥两边有围墙，顶上还有盖顶，是一个非常坚固的碉堡。不炸掉这座碉堡，解放军无法前进，这个艰巨的任务又落在了爆破队的身上。
一个战士上去了，两个战士上去了，三个战士上去了，都因碉堡的坚固而牺牲了，董存瑞决定自己上，可连长和指导员都推托不让他去，右董存瑞非常固执，连长没办法再推托了，只好让他去，并让他小心点。
董存瑞几次把炸药放在桥上都滑了下来。想找东西支撑，可四周没有一样东西可以，经过深思之后，决定为了全中国，牺牲自己的生命也无所谓。
董存瑞托起炸药包，抵在桥上，右手拉着导火线，用心全身的力量，喊出一句口号：“同志们，为了胜利，前进啊！
一声巨响，碉堡被炸飞了。这声巨响像命令一样，让战士们一跃而起，扑向敌人。隆化中学的围墙被炸飞了。
红旗在隆化中学升了起来，残余的敌人投降了，隆化解放了。
董存瑞为了全中国，为了人民的幸福牺牲了自己的人命，是我们的骄傲，是中华民族的英雄！

我的同桌叫xx，他皮肤黝黑，眼睛大大的，总是剪得一头短短的寸头，看上去既干净又利索。虽然他比我小几个月，但个子已经高出我半个头来，这可能是他平时不挑食酷爱运动的缘故吧（私下里这样认为，嘻嘻）。
从小我们就在一起玩，上的同一个幼儿园。上学了我们又分到了同一个班，我对他还是比较了解的。由于我们住前后楼又都是六楼，上学时只要相互对着喊一声便能结伴而行。
我和xx同桌是从四年级上学期开始的。xx平时学习不太认真，总喜欢在位洞里偷偷地看漫画，还时不时得和同学说话，为此经常挨老师的批评。有一次老师让我们在课堂上用“马上”造句，大家都七嘴八舌地说出各自句子，唯有xx还在埋头他的漫画。老师看见了就说：“xx同学，请你用马上造一个句子。”看他没反应，我用胳膊肘捅了他一下，还没反应，我又使劲得捅了一下，只听他说：“别闹，马上就捉到玉鼠精了！”话音一落，顿时全班哄堂大笑！真是歪打正着，没想到他竟然造出句来了。自然，这一次又挨了老师的批评并被老师没收了画报。
虽然他顽皮的出奇，但人缘却特别好，不管男生女生遇到什么解决不了的问题都喜欢找他帮忙。有一次我们班的`在操场上玩丢沙包的游戏是被五班的调皮男生抢走了沙包，几次讨要都不给，就哭着来找xx，只见xx把正在玩着的篮球往地上一扔，一拍胸脯说：“放心，我给你要回来！”只见它三步并作两步跑到操场边找到那个正在玩沙包的男生，对着他指指点点地说着什么，我想他肯定会说些是男子汉就不要欺负女生，欺负弱小不配做男人什么的话，他平时总爱这么说也总以男子汉自居。只见那个男生先是低眉顺目，接着又双手捧着沙包送到xx面前，还深深地鞠了一躬，可能是说了一些对不起，以后不会在那样了的话吧。他总是这样爱打抱不平而且总是这样遇到什么麻烦事都能摆平，我们大家都很喜欢他。
我一直给他保守着一个秘密。
xx平时特别喜欢玩悠悠球，早期他爸爸给他买的那个被他玩坏了，再要的时候他爸爸说只要上课改了不说话不看课外书的毛病，成绩好了就给他买。于是他经常到学校附近的“乐翻天”玩具店里去看那些琳琅满目的各式悠悠球，什么“”、“雷霆S”、“雪凌风”、“独狼”……等都是他最钟爱的。每次看到他失望地走出玩具店，我总是安慰他：学习好了，爸爸肯定会给你买的。他也总是信心十足的表态：我一定要好好学习，为了“雷霆S”！但又总是经不起漫画的诱惑，哎！真拿他没办法。
突然有一天，在放学回家的路上，xx把我拉到一边，神神秘秘地对我说：“白雪，你猜猜我提着的塑料袋里装的是什么？”我猜了半天也没说对，只见他伸手麻利地掏出一个精致的包装盒来：哇！是悠悠球，雷霆S！“你爸爸给你买了？”我问，只见他把食指放在嘴上，做了个嘘的动作，附到我耳边悄声地说“这是我趁玩具店阿姨不注意拿的。”啊！我惊讶的说不出话来，这不是偷窃吗！这是一种可耻的行为，是人人唾弃的小偷！我说：“你赶紧还回去吧，这样不好。”他用祈求的眼神看着我说：“你知道我为了拿这个悠悠球多害怕吗？到现在我的手还在发抖，你是知道我多想得到它的。求求你别和别人说，尤其别和你妈妈说，你说了她会和我爸爸说，那样我爸爸会打我的。”说着说着流下泪来。看到他可怜的样子，想到这个“雷霆S”会带给他快乐，我只好答应帮他保守这个秘密。那天我们俩心情都很沉重，路上谁也没有说话。
以后的日子里xx每天放学回家都会拿出悠悠球玩上一番，他能玩出许多招式，什么“摇篮”、“猴子捞月”、“搭线”、“”、“溜狗 ”、“逃脱”等令我眼花缭乱，羡慕不已，并且他还在四方区举行的“杯”悠悠球大赛上获得了第三名的好成绩。看到他快乐的样子我也替他高兴。
就在考完试就要放寒假的前几天，xx拉着我的手来到“乐翻天”玩具店门口，郑重的地我说：“白雪，今天我要做一件事，不能做见不得人的事。我要向玩具店阿姨道歉，向她承认错误，还给她悠悠球钱。不过，我还是有点不好意思，你得陪我一起进去。”呀，太好了！他终于意识到自己的错误了，我连忙说：“没问题！”
我们进得店来，里面挑玩具的人不是很多，但是xx还是耐心的等人都走光了才红着脸把事情的来龙去脉对阿姨说了一遍，接着拿出钱来还给阿姨，并等着阿姨的批评。没想到阿姨和蔼可亲地拍了拍xx的头，笑容可掬地说：“孩子，那天你拿的时候我就看到了，我想你肯定是特别喜欢才那么做的，并且阿姨相信你肯定会把钱还给我的。好孩子，以后别再犯这样的错误了好吗？”“阿姨，我一定记住你的话，一定做一个好孩子！”
这就是我的同桌xx，他这种勇于承认错误的勇气还真让我佩服呢！

I was always a little in awe of Great-aunt Stephina Roos. Indeed, as children we were all frankly terrified of her. The fact that she did not live with the family, preferring her tiny cottage and solitude to the comfortable but rather noisy household where we were brought up-added to the respectful fear in which she was held.
我对斯蒂菲娜老姑总是怀着敬畏之情。说实在话，我们几个孩子对她都怕得要。她不和家人一块生活，宁愿住在她的小屋子里，而不愿住在舒舒服服、热热闹闹的家里--我们六个孩子都是在家里带大的--这更加重了我们对她的敬畏之情。
We used to take it in turn to carry small delicacies which my mother had made down from the big house to the little cottage where Aunt Stephia and an old colored maid spent their days. Old Tnate Sanna would open the door to the rather frightened little messenger and would usher him-or her - into the dark voor-kamer, where the shutters were always closed to keep out the heat and the flies. There we would wait, in trembling but not altogether unpleasant.

She was a tiny little woman to inspire so much veneration. She was always dressed in black, and her dark clothes melted into the shadows of the voor-kamer and made her look smaller than ever. But you felt. The moment she entered. That something vital and strong and somehow indestructible had come in with her, although she moved slowly, and her voice was sweet and soft.

She never embraced us. She would greet us and take out hot little hands in her own beautiful cool one, with blue veins standing out on the back of it, as though the white skin were almost too delicate to contain them.

When we had finished our sweetmeats or fruit she would accompany us to the stoep, bidding us thank our mother for her gift and sending quaint, old-fashioned messages to her and the Father. Then she would turn and enter the house, closing the door behind, so that it became once more a place of mystery.

But to this day I do not know what strange impulse made me take George to see her and to tell her, before I had confided in another living soul, of our engagement. I have it yet, and though I am an old, tired woman, it still gives me hope and courage.\"

In 1882 a baby girl caught a fever that was so fierce she nearly died. She survived but the fever left its mark she could no longer see or hear. Because she could not hear she also found it very difficult to speak.

So how did this child, blinded and deafened at 19 months old, grow up to become a world-famous author and public speaker?

The fever cut her off from the outside world, depriving her of sight and sound. It was as if she had been thrown into a dark prison cell from which there could be no release.

Luckily Helen was not someone who gave up easily. Soon she began to explore the world by using her other senses. She followed her mother wherever she went, hanging onto her skirts, She touched and smelled everything she came across. She copied their actions and was soon able to do certain jobs herself, like milking the cows or kneading dough, She even learnt to recognize people by feeling their faces or their clothes. She could also tell where she was in the garden by the smell of the different plants and the feel of the ground under her feet.

By the age of seven she had invented over 60 different signs by which she could talk to her family, If she wanted bread for example, she would pretend to cut a loaf and butter the slices. If she wanted ice cream she wrapped her arms around herself and pretended to shiver.

At the age of five Helen began to realize she was different from other people. She noticed that her family did not use signs like she did but talked with their mouths. She wanted to talk but no matter how she tried she could not make herself understood. As she got older her frustration grew and her rages became worse and worse. She became wild and unruly . If she didnt get what she wanted she would throw tantrums until her family gave in. Her favourite tricks included grabbing other peoples food from their plates and hurling fragile objects to the floor. Once she even managed to lock her mother into the pantry. Eventually it became clear that something had to be done. So, just before her seventh birthday, the family hired a private tutor Anne Sullivan.
