看看天色已晚，元安这才想起应该回家了。他起身告辞时，临济却一把拉住他，语重心长地对他说：“小弟，听我告诉你一件事吧。有一条赤尾鲤鱼，样子十分好看，它自己也甚是得意。这一天，鲤鱼摇着头，摆着红色的尾鳍，向着南方游去了。可是它这一去，连它自己都不知道会游到那儿。如果游到宽阔的河里，那还算幸运;如果是游到了别人家腌鱼肉的缸里，那岂不是路一条吗?”
临济一番话，元安立刻深感惭愧，自觉不如临济。
所以说，人们在顺利的时候，一定要保持清醒的头脑，不可得意忘形，现出一副摇头摆尾的轻狂相。
