《阿甘正传》讲述了主人公福尔斯特·甘在孩童期间，越战中以及回国之后发生的一系列事情，阿甘由一个普通甚至说是低智商的问题儿童，成长为一个众人崇敬的百万富翁，一位了不起的成功人士。一个人们眼中的蠢材到一个人人称赞的人才，联系人才学所讲，似乎我们也能从阿甘身上找到一些理由。
在人才学的第五章中，提到了先天素质这一定义，就人才学来说，先天素质与后天习得素质是相对的概念，即是人在出生时，通过遗传以及由于胎儿发育期间受到各种因素的刺激已经形成的综合特征，主要包括生理素质、心理素质和智力素质。从在这个角度看来，阿甘在先天素质这一块便落后于常人。在智力素质这块，阿甘从遗传那得到的是先天低智商，智商只有75，连规定的正常上学的智商都没达到，而被学校拒收。此外，生理条件上，阿甘天生腿残疾，使之不得套上脚撑，套上脚撑的阿甘成为同伴眼中的笑话，阿甘被排斥、嘲笑、甚至欺辱。不过我们总说老天是公平的，它给你关上了一扇门，必定会为你打开一扇窗。阿甘正验证了这句话。在影片中，阿甘因为同伴的欺负而开发了自己的潜能，他的一双“飞毛腿”，奔跑如风，这使得他顺利的获得上大学的机会，并成功的获得学士学位。另外就是他在乒乓球上的天赋，偶然的接触乒乓球使得阿甘又走上了一条光辉灿烂的路途。不过，这些种种都并不是最重要的，而最重要的是上帝赐予了阿甘一个单纯正直、不存半点邪念的头脑，也许是应为低智商，也许是基因问题。无论如何，就是这样的简单而又纯洁的大脑，帮助阿甘走上成功的道路。还有就是阿甘的不同的气质，气质影响着人的性格和情绪，阿甘就是一个温和、淳朴、乐于助人、毫无心眼的性格，好心有好报，阿甘也因此得到了许多帮助。综上看来，阿甘在生理与智力的缺陷是一块巨大的绊脚石，不过同时，这块绊脚石也成为阿甘成功的垫脚石。
先天素质的缺陷阻碍着阿甘，但是我们能借鉴一些“环境决定论”的内容，来分析阿甘的成功。“环境决定论”与“遗传决定论”相反，强调人才主要取决于后天环境特别是教育因素的影响。在《阿甘正传》中，阿甘的妈妈正是典型。阿甘的妈妈是一个性格坚强的女性，她要让儿子和其他正常人一样生活，她常常鼓励阿甘你和别人是一样的，要他自强不息，为了应对别人说阿甘是傻瓜的话，她告诉阿甘“做傻事的才是傻瓜”。在影片中，阿甘的妈妈让阿甘套脚撑，让阿甘进入学校学习，也确实让阿甘过着正常人的生活。所以后来我们经常在影片中听到阿甘说“妈妈说……”这样的话，可以看得出，妈妈对阿甘产生了多大的影响，甚至是决定性的影响。将阿甘与珍妮进行比较，我们便能了解教育有多大影响。在先天上，珍妮四肢健全，漂亮可爱，头脑聪明，但就是因为生活在变态父亲的虐打中，童年的阴影使得珍妮最后走上滥交，吸毒以致于葬送生命。假若珍妮能在正常环境中成长，相信会是不同的结局。母亲是阿甘人生中导师，她教会阿甘什么是自尊，什么是自爱，教会阿甘不屈不卑。除了母亲，珍妮也是阿甘的福星。在同学们都不给阿甘座位的时候，珍妮主动让阿甘坐在自己旁边，与阿甘打招呼，和阿甘一起玩耍，在同伴欺负阿甘时，珍妮高呼：阿甘，跑，快跑。让阿甘在奔跑的道路上驰骋。珍妮给了阿甘友谊和爱情，给了阿甘幸福。除了母亲和珍妮，例如小时欺负阿甘的同学，若不是他们的欺辱，阿甘又怎会开发自己奔跑的天赋；例如巴布、丹中尉等等，他们都有意无意的促成了阿甘的成功。个人认为，在阿甘的人生中，外部环境对阿甘起着主要影响。
除了先天素质和环境的影响，阿甘自己的主观能动性也不能忽视。阿甘的行为有着自己的善恶标准，他跟珍妮告白，追求自己的幸福；他信守与巴布的承诺，回去做起了捕虾船的活；他莫名的奔跑，只是因为想跑，想便去做；他不怕危险，救起了许多越战中的受伤战士（包括丹中尉）……阿甘用自己的力量，用自己的行为，去描绘自己的人生的蓝图。所以，阿甘自己的能动性也发挥着重要的作用。
在各种不同的逆境中，阿甘并没有抱怨任何人，只是自己默默的努力，最终，危机成为转机。阿甘的成功是先天素质（即天赋）、后天环境以及自己的主观努力的综合结果。我们每一个人都像是一个阿甘，我们各自有着或多或少的毛病，但是我们也有我们的优势以及自己都还没发现的潜能，只要能够将天赋合理运用，同时借助外力，那么我们也能够成功，能够成才！

One day he finds that he could run fast like wind.After thathe begin to run without any reason. Maybe he wants to escape from the unkind laughter and indignity.He may be a fool.But in the first he is a man.he has his own motions.He leads his life in his own ways and never complains anything and never gives up. Because of this,he gets surprising upshots every time.He escapes from the fiece fight.He is saw by several presidents and gets his lover he loves so much.What a luckey dog he is!Most people would think that they prefer to be a fool like Gump.
