狐狸连连磕头，表示对狮子的恭顺。然后说：“哦，伟大的君王，这是明摆着的事情哪！牛是您的午餐，羊是您的晚餐，兔子就给光芒万丈的君王当早点吧。”
狮子满意地大声说：
“你太能干啦！分配得这么妥当，你是从哪里学来的？”
狐狸毕恭毕敬地回答：
“那两只在地上滚动的狼眼，给我递了眼色，我才明白的。”

待商人离开后，两个人一数金额的数量是：八个。“八个金币，两个人，我们就每人四个金币。”拉姆说到。“这不公平！”希亚大声反驳道，“我有五块面包，你只有三块，所以，我应该拿五块，你只能拿三块。” 拉姆不想争吵，但他也不想让希亚拿五块金币。“我们去找村长来决定吧他是个公正的人。”拉姆说。
他们来到村长毛尔维的家，把整个事情告诉了他。毛尔维想了很久，最后说：“分配这笔钱的公平办法，就是希亚拿七个金币，拉姆那一个。”“什么？”拉姆尖叫道。“为什么我该得的`七个？”希亚也觉得非常奇怪。当毛尔维把他分配的理由解释清楚后，拉姆和希亚都没有对这个分配再提出意见。这真是一个公平的裁决呀！
毛尔维决定只给拉姆一个金币，而给西亚七块，是因为，商人吃的八块面包中，只有一块是从拉姆的面包中来的，而其余七块都是希亚的,如果商人吃的八块面包中四块是拉姆的，四块是希亚的，或者还有其他的情形，那又该怎么办呢？如果你把所有的可能都考虑到了然后在计算，你会发现，结果仍然是相同的。
