鸟儿们见了都深表同情，纷纷跑来劝说。
百灵鸟说：“你怎么这么傻呀，你的工作再出色也是徒劳。你还是改行跟我学唱歌吧，只要有甜润的嗓门，能唱出婉转动听的'歌曲，不管到哪儿都会受热捧的。”
花喜鹊也说：“你何必那么辛苦操劳呢？或者你就跟着我学吹捧术吧，只要你象我一样事事报喜不报忧，专拣好话说给那些人听，哄得他们心情舒畅了，吃香的喝辣的还不是一句话的事？”
白孔雀也上前劝说：“你就不要再搞那些吃力不讨好的事了，干脆跟我学打扮吧，你看我天天装扮的红红绿绿花枝招展，利用姿色吸引那些人的眼球，啥事都没干，不是也处处受欢迎？”
“谢谢大家的好意，人们最终会理解我的，”猫头鹰毫不气馁坚定地回答：“我决不会为了迎合某些人的心理需求或讨取他们的欢心而放弃理想追求。只要能为人类夺取粮食的更大丰收做出贡献，我个人受点委屈又算得了什么呢？”
