没有花哨的动画技术，也没有复杂的人物情节，它讲述了一个类似于西方童话中《绿野仙踪》的故事：千寻和父母误入一个异常诡异的古镇，父母变异为猪，处在被宰的危险境地，在汤婆婆的徒弟小白，锅炉爷爷和小玲姐姐的帮忙及自己的`不懈努力之下，最后一家人团聚。即便如此，但作者的感情处理得很细腻，所以很感人，即使是在八万神仙鬼怪登场的幽冥之地，也往往能感受到日本民俗中的世态人情之美。这也是本片吸引人的地方之一。
人不能不劳而获，也不能沉迷于享乐之中。如同千寻的父母因贪图美食而一发不可收拾，最终落到变成猪的悲惨境地。又如汤婆婆的宝贝儿子，整天只明白吃喝玩乐而应对钱婆婆的法术却手足无措，变成一只硕鼠，行动也要靠一只虫子来带。相对于他们，善良勇敢的千寻却在这样一个世界，透过自我努力抓住机遇首先感动了锅炉爷爷找到了工作，后又为河神洗净身子得到了一粒药丸，而这一粒药丸也救了许多人。
千寻的父母在现实社会中就是那种贪图享乐而不顾他人的自私的人，我想即便千寻将他们救回来也改变不了他们的本性，看完本片的同时也为千寻感到些许的心寒。而“无面人”则代表了社会中的另一群人，孤独，寂寞，应对许多人的奉承，虚荣心膨胀，贪婪美食，最后体积越来越大。千寻，这个10岁的小女孩，只是社会中的少部分人，他们凭着他们一颗善良真诚的心拯救了许多像“无面人”、千寻父母这样的人。
最终千寻是找回了家，而他回了家要归功于她时时刻刻都记得自己是谁，有明确的目标。“千寻”是她的名字，而名字只是一个代号，最重要的是能够认清真实的自己，不要向白龙那样迷失了自我，搞到之后自己伤痕累累，所幸他还是在千寻的帮忙下找回了自己。所以，只有认清自己才能获得成功。
除了讲述人生的道理，作者还不忘提醒观众们环保问题，和《百变狸猫》通篇谈环保不同，《千》借河神来洗澡却洗出了一堆垃圾来提醒观众们关注环保问题，实在是用心良苦!
作为一部带有神秘色彩的动画，在令人感动的同时给人们无限的思考，蕴含着许多的人生道理，绝对是一部值得细细品味的好电影!
