我家买来了四条小金鱼。有红色的，橘黄色的，还有一条是红白相间的，这是四条中最漂亮的一条。
每当我轻轻的在水面上一吹，它就在鱼缸里飞快的一圈两圈的转；有时候它摇动着它那长长的尾巴，欢快地游来游去；有时候我给它们换水，我总是逮不住它，因为它游的太快了；有时候我看见它在鱼缸里跳来跳去，好像在说：“你怎么还不给我喂粮食，再不喂我可就要饿啦！”
多么顽皮的小金鱼呀，我要好好照顾它。

小仓鼠长得很招人喜爱，眼睛圆圆溜溜又黑呼呼的，好像两颗黑色的小宝石。嘴巴小小的，好像兔子的三瓣嘴，尾巴也短短的，像兔子的尾巴一样，可有趣了。
我每天都会跟小仓鼠玩一下。今天，我又照常来和它们玩了。我一看笼子，呀!“糖果”正在爬笼子边上那一格像小梯子一样的地方，边爬那个小格子就转，像马戏团里走大风车一样。它首先从食物盒开始爬，然后一点一点地靠笼子的边缘向上爬，最后停在最上面。好玩吧!“布丁”呢，则在下面的角落里安静做巢，把两旁的木屑都聚拢起来，差点把自己活埋了。
怎么样?这就是我那两只调皮又可爱的小仓鼠。我会每天都观察它们，我很高兴成为它们的小伙伴!

When they had done so, he placed the faggot into the hands of each of them in succession, and ordered them to break it in pieces. They each tried with all their strength, and were not able to do it.
He next unclosed the faggot, and took the sticks separately, one by one, and again put them into their hands, on which they broke them easily. He then
addressed them in these words: "My sons, if you are of one mind, and unite to assist each other, you will be as this faggot, uninjured by all the attempts of your enemies; but if you are divided among yourselves, you will be broken as easily as these sticks."
