它走到一棵大树下，张开大嘴，大口大口地喘着气，还伸出了长长的舌头，不停地上下扇动着。它心里非常难过，暗想：难道我这不是狗叫吗？
突然，一个清脆明亮的声音传到了小狗的耳朵里：喂，你叫什么名字啊？为什么我从来没有见过你？小狗听了这声音，觉得很奇怪，便循声走到了大树跟前，抬头一看，哈！原来是一只小鸟在跟自己说话呀！这只小鸟全身的羽毛都是金黄色的，在阳光的照耀下闪闪发光。它的嘴壳是棕色的，嘴巴里有一个火红的小舌头。尾巴是彩色的.，远远望去，就像彩虹在大树上飘动着。
小鸟接着问小狗：你有什么伤心事吗？为什么看上去愁眉苦脸的？小狗讲了事情的经过，说：都是因为我不会汪汪叫。小鸟很同情小狗，说：没事，我可以教你，我的声音是最好听的，人们都称我‘森林歌王’呢！
小狗听了小鸟的话，心里好过了一些。你只要模仿我的样子叫，肯定能学会！说完，小鸟清了清嗓子，伸长了脖子，发出了啾啾、啾啾的叫声，那声音如同清泉流水，连小狗也禁不住陶醉了起来。听着小鸟的叫声，小狗学着它的样子，也伸长脖子，张开大嘴，却发出了一阵粗鲁的咕咕声，连小鸟也吓了一跳。它往后退了几步，说：没事，你只要多练习，就能学会。之后，小狗就每天在森林里练习，最后，小狗学会了鸟叫。
有一天，小狗唱着啾啾、啾啾来到了田野上，羊妈妈看见了小狗，非常奇怪，就问：小狗，你为什么不‘汪汪’叫，却学鸟儿的叫声呢？小狗听了，觉得奇怪极了，就问：那你能教我吗？羊妈妈说：没问题啊！接着，羊妈妈叫了起来：咩咩、咩咩。听完羊妈妈的叫声，小狗又认真地练习起来。过了好久，小狗终于学会了咩咩叫，心里很高兴。
这一天，小狗在田野上散步，它看到了另一只小狗在朝自己汪汪叫，那声音好听极了！小狗看了看自己，终于明白了，原来这才是狗真正的叫声啊！小狗连忙跑到了那只小狗跟前，使劲抱住了它，苦苦央求它教自己汪汪叫。那只小狗同意了，便把怎么汪汪叫教给了它。功夫不负有心人，最后小狗学会了汪汪叫。
从此，小狗就对着月亮叫，对着自己的同伴叫，成了一只真正会汪汪叫的小狗。
