长期以来，作为老师，我们一再强调的是权威与控制，一个班级如果失去了控制那将是多么可怕的事情，所以我们更愿意用外力去“统治”学生。教师依然是教学活动的启动者、控制者，教师确定学习目标、重点、难点，并据此展开教学活动，学生只是接受知识的对象和容器，在老师的带领下阅读课文，接受老师的讲解，回答老师提前设计好的问题。教学中重教有余，重学不足；灌输有余，启发不足；复制有余，创新不足。忽视了学生的兴趣、爱好和个人生活积累，忽视了学生之间态度、情感、思维方式的变异，用统一的文本、划一的标准去要生；限制学生的理解内容、理解程度、理解方式、限制学生的表达、表达内容和表达方式。这种无视学生生命个体存在的教学方式，使学生没有兴趣、没有问题、没有怀疑、没有想象的空间，阅读品位低俗，阅读能力低下，没有良好的阅读习惯，缺乏应用的阅读意识，知识面狭窄，见解肤浅，思维板滞迟钝，缺少个性。这种“目中无人”的教学方式，与培养生动活泼、全面发展、极具丰富个性的个体为目的的素质教育是相矛盾的。
