仁是孔子思想中的最高道德。
郭沫若认为：仁的含义是，克己而人的一种利他的行为。仁是牺牲自己，以为大众服务的.精神。孟子说，恻隐之心，仁之端也，无恻隐之心，非仁也。显而易见，同情他人是仁爱的具体表现，帮助他人是从行为上展示了仁爱的精神。
就拿这次5.12汶川8.0级地震来讲，它是一种自然灾害，突如其来，猝不及防，却也挽救了很多人被残酷的竞争而消磨掉的同情心。通过电视、新闻等媒介，了解到，刑释人员六天救了两名幸存者，他说，救人是对自己罪恶的救赎：来自看守所的捐款申请：“戴罪之人尽绵薄之力”。那一句“只要有一线希望，我们就要付出百倍的努力”，对于人民的生命，一诺千金，所以才有了被埋压100个小时的奇迹出现，接着又有了105个小时，127个小时被埋省生命的奇迹出现。
仁者爱人，就是，就是内在的真诚的爱的情感，内心真诚，没有代价，不是为别人，而是发自内心，实实在在存在的。恻隐之心的流露无疑是对仁爱现代价值的一种肯定，是医治现代社会痼疾的一剂良药。
“我不慌张，你先救他们”，这是出自被困小孩的话，“我们和你在一起”，这是福建泉州赈灾慈善募捐的语言，催人泪下、震撼人心。
仁爱在当代不再仅仅是一种观念，而是活生生的游走于人们心灵与行动之间，不再是金钱关系代替了仁爱，结果导致的恩格斯所抨击“罪卑下的利益的情欲，卑下的物欲，对公共财产自私自利的掠夺”和“最卑鄙的手段偷窃、欺诈与背信”

仁爱的精神也是保护生态环境，爱惜动物的一种道德武器。曾经在鸽子市场，一名大学生穿着短袖，头上戴着”猫咪“面具，身前放着一个”替动物请命“的牌子跪在路上，一个女孩举着印有”拒吃猫狗肉“的T恤跪在他旁边。他们身后，几名学生拿着”善待生命、刀下留情“的广告牌陪同，同学们在瑟瑟的寒风中用这种方式感染那些掠动物的商贩，让商贩们放下屠刀，珍爱生命。们之所以保护动物，往往基于这样的理念：动物也是生命，只要不对人类造成大的危害，它们就有生存的权利；动物是地球生物圈的重要组成部分，无节制地捕它们，会破坏地球的生态平衡。我们唯独很少想到这样一个道理：动物的智慧其实远远高于人类对它们的估价，它们不但懂得彼此善待，还知道用自己的“才能”回报人类点点滴滴的爱心。我们最大限度地保护它们，一方面可以让动物享有同类彼此关爱的权利，另一方面也可以使人类自己的生活获得一份坚实的凭借。
