小时候出生长大在南国，最喜欢那红红的大大的木棉花。
每当春天来临，木棉树那高大的铁灰色树干没有一片叶子，却见满树红彤彤地一片火焰般的花朵。木棉花昂然挺立在向阳的枝头。仰望它们，背衬湛蓝的天空和飘浮的白云，木棉花像极了迎风猎猎的红旗。从那时起，我也知道了木棉花的另一个名字：英雄花。
上学的路上，或去公园游玩，我总要走到路旁身边的木棉树下，不眨眼地抬头看着那谁也比不上的正红硕壮的大红花。拣起落到地上的一朵，我都会深情地细细端详：那饱满的花瓣，里面有着多么厚实的生命；那中心花蕊，不屈地向上追求；最爱的是那五星型的花状：花瓣与花瓣之间的距离那么端正，角度那么合适恰当，颜色那么纯粹，大红深红，完全就是一颗爸爸妈妈军帽上的红五星！因此，孩提时代，我们都把木棉花叫做“五角星花”。
春雨过后，一树一树的木棉花，又像极了无数燃烧的火炬，烧得人心沸腾，不由也染上一层英雄气概，那火红的花瓣，有一种不言自喻的烈士性，令人感动不已。
木棉花连凋落的姿势都与众不同，落的干脆利落、落的掷地有声、宁为玉碎、不为瓦全，悲壮的投入大地的怀抱。当时我总从落在地上的花中，挑一朵最完整的轻轻捧起，一直带在身边，直到它枯萎。看着脖子上带着的红领巾，想起队歌里的话：红领巾是红旗的一角，是被烈士的鲜染红的。由此想起红红的英雄花：它更像被英雄的鲜浸染的颜色！从此，英雄花就是我心中的花，看到英雄就想起了它！
出生长大在军营的我，从小耳濡目染，最知道中国共产党领导的人民军队是怎样地为了天下劳苦大众的解放，抛头颅洒热，历经雨腥风，换来了今天生活的美好；最知道人民子弟兵是怎样地忠诚坚强，召之能来，来之能战，战之能胜；最知道军人置生于度外的无私奉献和赴汤蹈火视如归的从容。
因为那时，讲述红军八路军新四军解放军的战斗故事，从爸爸妈妈的嘴里，从电影上，从书本中，大量地生动地记录，深深复刻在我们的`心间。看着爸爸妈妈那庄重和追忆的脸庞，我暗暗为他们活出来走到今天而感到庆幸。我怀念那些爸爸妈妈的战友，怀念那些跟着穿草鞋拿起大刀梭标闹革命的革命先烈。他们是大英雄，英雄花正是他们生命沃的壮美！
