据了解，未来几期节目中，航天英雄杨利伟、作家刘震云、配音演员乔榛，以及演员斯琴高娃、蒋雯丽、梅婷等人都将成为“朗读者”，分享他们喜欢的文字和故事。其中说话略有口音的作家刘震云，成为朗读者中的“另类”。而董卿极力说服他来参加，并向他解释：“朗读的技巧、字正腔圆并非这个节目最想展现的，换句话说技巧不是核心，真情实感才是最打动观众的地方。”
董卿认为：“这个舞台属于每一个人，为所有人开放。你想说的话，你的情感，都可以从朗读的篇目中传递出来。”录制节目时，她为那些非专业的朗读者们传授经验：“随着音乐酝酿情绪，不要着急，你们读得都很好。”她还告诉观众：“你们的倾听很重要。如果你们给朗读者一个聚精会神的眼神，会让他们更有信心。你们读过情诗吗?没读过情诗的人生不完整，读过后你的人生会升华的。”
首播之后，来自好友和观众的反馈令她兴奋不已。董卿透露，娄乃鸣导演用了两个字儿来形容第一观感“惊了”，“就是完全没有套路的一个节目，哪里请来的大神。”她笑：“很多人通过濮存昕的朗读才知道，原来老舍(shě是念老舍(shè，真是长知识了，重要的事情说三遍。”
身为制作人，董卿直言文化类的节目难做：“我并不认为因为《中国诗词大会》或者《朗读者》得到了大家的关注，就标志着今天中国文化类节目开始大火，或者说真的迎来了一个新的春天，但是起码它是个风向标。另外也给我们提出了更高的要求，但这类节目真的是不好做，它需要更精心的设计。”
