1。 叙述的人称
英语的记叙文一般是以第一或第三人称的角度来叙述的。用第一称表示的是由叙述者亲眼所见、亲耳所闻的经历。它的优点在于能把故事的情节通过“我”来传达给读者，使人到真实可信，如身临其境。如：
The other day， I was driving along the street。 Suddenly， a car lost its control and ran directly towards me fast。 I was so frightened that I quickly turned to the left side。 But it was too late。 The car hit my bike and I fell off it。
用第三人称叙述，优点在于叙述者不受“我”活动范围以内的人和事物的限制，而是通过作者与读者之外的第三者，直接把故事中的情节展现在读者面前，文章的客观性很强。如：
Little Tom was going to school with an umbrella， for it was raining hard。 On the way， he saw an old woman walking in the rain with nothing to cover。 Tom went up to the old woman and wanted to share the umbrella with her， but he was too short。 What could he do? Then he had a good idea。
2。 动词的时态
在记叙文中，记和叙都离不开动词。所以动词出现率最高，且富于变化。记叙文中用得最多的是动词的过去的'，这是英语记叙文区别于汉语记叙文的关键之处。英语写作的优美之处就在于这些动词时态的变化，正是这一点才使得所记、所叙有鲜活的动态感、鲜明的层次感和立体感。
3。 叙述的顺序
记叙一件事要有一定的顺序。无论是顺叙、倒叙、插叙还是补叙，都要让读者能弄清事情的来龙去脉。顺叙最容易操作，较容易给读者提供有关事情的空间和时间线索。但这种方法也容易使文章显得平铺直叙，读起来平淡乏味。倒叙、插叙、补叙等叙述方法能有效地提高文章的结构效果，让所叙之事跌宕起伏，使读者在阅读时思维产生较大的跳跃，从而为文章所吸引，深入其中。但这些方法如果使用不当，则容易弄巧成拙，使文章结构散乱，头绪不清，让读者不知所云。
4。 叙述的过渡
过渡在上下文中起着承上启下、融会贯通的作用。过渡往往用在地点转移或时间、事件转换以及由概括说明到具体叙述时。如：
In my summer holidays， I did a lot of things。 Apart form doing my homework， reading an English novel， watching TV and doing some housework， I went on a trip to Qingdao。 It is really a beautiful city。 There are many places of interest to see。 But what impressed me most was the sunrise。
The next morning I got up early。 I was very happy because it was a fine day。 By the time I got to the beach， the clouds on the horizon were turning red。 In a little while， a small part of the sun was gradually appearing。 The sun was very red， not shining。 It rose slowly。 At last it broke through the red clouds and jumped above the sea， just like a deep-red ball。 At the same time the clouds and the sea water became red and bright。
What a moving and unforgettable scene!
5。 叙述与对话
引用故事情节中主要人物的对话是记叙文提高表现力的一种好方法。适当地用直接引语代替间接的主观叙述，可以客观生动地反映人物的性格、品质和心理状态，使记叙生动、有趣，使文章内容更加充实、具体。试比较下面两段的叙述效果：
I was in the kitchen， and I was cooking something。 Suddenly I heard a loud noise from the front。 I thought maybe someone was knocking the door。 I asked who it was but I heard no reply。 After a while I saw my cat running across the parlor。 I realized it was the cat。 I felt released。
这本来应是一段故事性很强的文字，但经作者这么一写，就不那么吸引人了。原因是文中用的都是叙述模式，没有人物语言，把“悬念”给冲淡了。可作如下调整：
I was in the kitchen cooking something。 "Crash!" a loud noise came from the front。 Thinking someone was knocking at the door， I asked， "Who?" No reply。 After a while， I saw my cat running across the parlor。 "It＇s you。" I said， quite released。

1。 头绪分明，脉络清楚
写好记叙文，首先要头绪分明，脉络清楚，明确文章要求写什么。要对所写的事件或人物进行分析，弄清事件发生、发展一直到结束的整个过程，然后再收集选取素材。这些素材都应该跟上述五个“ W ”和一个“ H ”有关。尽管不是每篇记叙文里都必须包括这些“ W ”和“ H ”，但动笔之前，围绕五个“ W ”和“ H ”进行构思是必不可少的。
2。 突出中心，详略得当
在文章的框架确定后，对支持故事的素材的选取是很关键的。选材要注意取舍，应该从表现文章主题的需要出发，分清主次，定好详略。要突出重点，详写细述那些能表现文章主题的重要情节，略写粗述那么非关键的次要情节。面面俱到反而使情节罗列化，使人不得要领。这一点是写好记叙文要解决的一个基本问题，也需要一定的技巧。如：
One night a man came to our house and told me， "There is a family with eight children。 They have not eaten for days。" I took some food with me and went。
When I finally came to that family， I saw the faces of those little children disfigured （破坏外貌） by hunger。 There was no sorrow or sadness in their faces， just the deep pain of hunger。
I gave the rice to the mother。 She divided the rice in two， and went out， carrying half the rice。 When she came back， I asked her， "Where did you go?" she gave me this simple answer， "To my neighbors — they are hungry also!"
3。 用活语言，准确生动
记叙文要用具体的事件和生动的语言对人、事、物加以叙述。一篇好的记叙文的语言既要准确、生动，又要表现力强，这样才能把人、事描写得具体生动，其可读性才强。试比较下面一篇例文修改的前后效果。
原文：
One day Xiaoqiang was wandering away。 He was soon lost among people and traffic。 He could not find the way back home and started crying。 Just then， two young students who were passing by found him standing alone in front of a shop and crying。 They went up to Xiaoqiang and asked him what had happened。 Xiaoqiang told them how he got lost and where he lived。 The two students decided to take him home。 Mother was pleased to see Xiaoqiang come back safe and sound。 She invited the two students into the house and gave them some money， but they didn＇t take it。 She served them with tea but they left。
修改后：
The other day， five-year-old Xiaoqiang left home alone and wandered happily in the street。 After some time， he felt hungry so he wanted to go back home。 But he found he was lost among the crowded people and heavy traffic。 When he could not find the way home， he started and crying。 Just then， two young students who were passing by from school found him sanding crying in front of a shop。 They immediately went up to him。
"Little boy， why are you standing here crying?" they asked。
"I want Mom， I go home。" said the boy， still crying。
"Don＇t worry， we＇ll send you home。"
And they spent the next two hours looking for the boy＇s house。 With the help of a policeman， they finally found it。
When the worried mother saw her son come back safe and sound， she was so thankful and she invited the students into her house。 Gratefully， she offered them some money， saying it was a way to express her thanks， but the young students firmly refused it and left without even a cup of tea。

一路上，导游指指点点地介绍着运城大大小小的盐池，包括它是由什么构成的，有多大，旁边堆的是什么等等，但车丝毫没有停下来的意思。却偶尔向它们靠近些，往往害我白激动一场。
终于，开进了一个近似生态园？或者是水的地方，在宽阔的停下了。导游又开始嘱咐：、患者不能进；皮肤有伤口者不能进；特殊时期的妇女不能进……幸好，我三项都符合。正准备下车进入，只听得这个全陪要点查游客，那个地接要去办理手续，忙得不亦乐乎。我只好继续窝在车里，等待着一切的停当。
好容易传来下车的喜讯，我豁地从座位上跳起来，飞一般地蹿下了车。当时下午四点钟左右，本不毒辣的早已没什么劲了，只是象征性地挂在天上。微风吹过，好象把全身每一个毛孔都吹得舒张开来，怪舒服的。
那座建筑就好象之前去过的水宫，一进门就感到一阵湿气扑面。迎宾、、前台都好象十分地有气质，一个个笑容满面地向我们扑过来。虽然不久我就听到为了几个小孩子的问题，双方展开了激烈的争吵……
不过那些是与我无关的。在经过几道简单的流程后，我顺利地拿到手牌，几步跨进了更衣室。打开背包，一眼就看到由于原因搁置了很久的泳装、泳镜，还有鼻夹、耳塞之类的。真的是好久都没有碰过了呢。幸好这种是均码的，穿在身上还是很合适。
一番打扮之后，我看起来已和一个专业游泳选手没什么两样了吧。于是我兴奋地冲出更衣室，穿着双蹩脚的拖鞋便想直奔向往已久的“盐湖漂浮”，结果半中间被人拦住，用一种很温柔的语气说：“你好，请先去水疗池。请往这边走。”那是不能拒绝的语气，我只好顺着她所指的方向走去。门口又有一人热情地拦住我：“你好，请先脱鞋。”于是我乖乖地光脚走进浴场。唉，看来有的时候热情服务也会使人浑身不自在。
这种水疗其实也很常见了，以前也有玩过，无非是大型冲水或者小型冒泡，或是足底喷些出来搔脚心。唯一不同的是水。记得以前做水疗时，那水叫一个清，引诱着我时不时想把它当作游泳池来玩，结果总是被眼尖的服务员及时制止。而这次不同了，因为是男女混疗，都穿着泳衣的，不游一下就没天理了。但这水却很黄，出奇的黄，让我一点也没有扎进头去的愿望。难道这竟是加热的黄河水么？我轻轻地尝了一点——咸。不是说是地底的温泉水吗，怎么也咸成这个样子？唉，难怪叫“盐湖”呢。
第二个目的地便是令我一路上兴奋不已的“盐池”了。这座建筑好大，东一弯西一拐的，多亏有那些热情洋溢的服务员才不至于迷路。拐了几个弯后，终于进到一件房子里。映入眼帘的是——游泳池？
挺小的一个池子，更称不上是标准的“游泳池”，它是圆的形状。上面已有几个人在漂浮了，我也没心思去思考这个池子的大小方圆问题，脱了鞋径投盐池去。途中有服务员递给我一个漂浮靠枕，并耐心地向我解释什么样的状况不能进入，进入之后什么反应应该怎么办等等，我又怎么会有心思去听她的？虽然现在我明白了听人劝是一件多么必要的事……
做好准备后，我缓缓向池内进发。不是因为喜悦之情减少，而是池底实在太滑了，稍不留神就会滑倒，溅上一身水，不对，是一身盐。那池子不深，等到了中心，我才拿出靠枕，缓缓躺下，一点都不可怕。水的含盐量果然够高，轻松地把我浮起来了。
最近几天我感冒，鼻子特别难受。也不知怎么回事，一进池子，我的鼻子就火辣辣地疼起来。这倒算了，不一会，一滴水进了我的眼睛里。这可是高浓度的盐水，进了眼睛可不得了了。我赶忙坐起来，险些又翻倒，于是很快站了起来，想揉揉眼睛。旁边走过来个救生员，叮嘱我说不要揉眼睛。但那个时候我又怎么能听他的了？不揉的.话实在想不出更好的办法了。我尽量小心地将睫毛中的水揉掉，眼睛慢慢能睁开了。然后我飞快跑到旁边的淋浴室里，拼命的洗脸，总算缓过来了。我又把身上其他部位都洗了洗，上面沾了不少盐，好在都洗掉了。我果断地穿上鞋，头也不回地跑走了。上帝啊，那可真不是一个人待的地方！
最后一项是著名的“黑泥养颜”，说白了就是除了眼睛鼻子嘴，其他部位都要涂上脏兮兮的黑泥。那里有大大小小的黑泥池，里面流动的黑泥巴，让人看了只觉恶心。但一想到这东西对皮肤有好处，我还是坚定地跳进去了。先把全身浇上一层黑泥，然后用手捞起一把，均匀地涂抹在脸上，就当是在涂化妆品了。回来后大家说，就我涂得最细。涂抹过程中，好心的服务员提示我们：在黑泥池里待久了容易脱水。我也不知是真好心，还是想催促我们快些走，不过反正也玩够了，我便出了池子，到淋浴那里，将全身的黑泥洗得一干二净。泳衣上的泥竟然也能洗掉，倒是让我有些惊奇。
最后一步呢，就是到真正的浴室里，把洗得干干净净，再穿上衣服，就算是功德圆满了。虽然漂浮很失败，但一身的黑泥好象使皮肤更细了。或者这只是我的幻觉而已，但总觉得肯定有效果的。效果什么的要出现也很简单，只要你心里相信它，不就行了么？
