Partly autobiographical, the novel abounds with social criticism and sinister gothic elements.

某处有一只小狮，它因为喜欢听人家说赞美它的话，于是它离开了狮群，跑到驴的队伍里去，整天的和驴玩耍，凡是驴类所能做的事，驴类的叫声，它都学得惟妙惟肖，没有一样不像的。过了很久，它在驴群里过得厌了，就回到自己的家里去，见了它的父亲老狮，说道：“我在外面学了不少的技艺回来啦!”
老狮问道：“你学会了什么?可以表演给我看吗?”
小狮说道：“可以的。”
于是小狮把从驴群里学来的'技艺，尽量的表演一番，最后它又学驴子的叫声。
老狮听了，惊得一跳，说道：“这就可以证明你交接的朋友，是没用的了。”
小狮答道：“你为什么要责骂我?我的朋友，是常常赞美我的!”
老狮道：“这些赞美你的人，不见得是有本领的人啊!因为狮子所鄙视的，正是驴类所赞美的哩!”

漫画所画的是：在一片树木茂盛，郁郁葱葱的森林里，有一个手持板斧的盗木人，挥舞着斧头，随意地砍伐着一棵又一颗的大树。他还抽着烟，抽着抽着就把烟头弹进附近的草丛里。我看他心里八成在想：“今天我砍得树越多，木材的质量越好，就能赚更多钱了”。盗木人越想越开心，想到自己手上有钱了，手上的斧头就越挥越带劲。突然，一只啄木鸟飞了过来，站在盗木人的肩上，愤怒地啄着他那朽木一样的脑袋。那脑袋里装着都是贪婪，无知和愚蠢。盗木人被啄木鸟啄得满头是包，啄木鸟一边啄一边想：“这段木头里一定有虫。”盗木人痛得呲牙，挥动着手臂赶走了啄木鸟。就把砍下来的木头装上卡车运走了。
盗木人开着卡车，来到了一个十分隐蔽的非法木材加工厂。他下了车，找到了加工厂的经理，经理看了看木材的质量，数了数数量，转过身对盗木人说：“小黄啊，你干的不错嘛，比上次多了不少嘛，这是你的工资，还有你的`奖金。呢，这是你的工资，3000元，还有奖金，1000元。继续努力啊”。“谢谢王经理，呵呵。”盗木人说完，就数着钱，笑着出去了。
想到这，我实在为这两个人可悲，一个为了钱破坏我们赖以生存的家园，一个也是为了赚钱鼓励盗木人乱砍乱伐。如果是这样，森林将会消失，地球将会荒芜。为了更好的利用地球上的资源，同时也更好的造福于我们的子孙后代，我们应该抵制浪费，珍惜资源，坚决倡导减法生活，不能为了钱而丧失了理智和人性。让地球上的资源更好的造福于人类和大地！
