一个安静而又舒适的夜晚，一年级新生花花的书包却安静不下来，因为书包里的文具在今天晚上十分热闹，每个文具都争先恐后的议论“谁的本领最大”。
刚来到书包大家庭的怀里，文具们就闹腾了起来，铅笔哥哥最先挑起话题，他不顾一切地大声嚷嚷道：“我的本领最大！每当小主人要写字的时候没有我根本就写不了，更不会用到你们，你们一点用也没用！”橡皮弟弟听了很不服气，就对铅笔哥哥说：“铅笔哥哥，你这话说的不对啊，你写错了字，如果小主人不及时用我来擦掉，就会被老师批评。小主人就会少不了皮肉之苦了。只有你写错了字，小主人用我来擦掉才能得到老师，爸爸妈妈的表扬呢！小主人才会高兴！”文具盒大哥哥听到他们这么说更是来气，高傲的说：“小弟弟们，你们都错了吧，没有我你们放在哪里？没有我你们就会不见，小主人找不到你们就不要你们了，你们就等着被别的坏人嫌弃吧！所以到头来，还是我的本领比你们都大！”这时书包叔叔听到了他们在争吵，很生气，但是没有大声吼，而是心平气和的叹了口气，你们真的太幼稚，太无聊了，竟然会争论这种问题，你们应该好好的为小主人服务，而不是在这里大声争吵。如果你们吵醒了小主人怎么办？小主人明天还要上学呢！每个人都有自己的优点和缺点，我们应该互相帮助，学习别人的长处，改正自己的短处才对，不要单单只看自己的优点，这样是不好的。
“好了好了别说了，我想你们吵了这么久也累了，回去休息吧，明天好好为小主人服务。”
听了书包叔叔的话，铅笔、橡皮和文具盒都惭愧的低下头，互相道歉。
经过这件事以后，他们懂得了，学会了许多道理，知道了应该怎么为小主人服务。他们非但没有吵闹，反而互相成为好朋友，互相帮助，为小主人做事了呢！

这时，小红从门里进来，文具们马上停止了说话。但小红却歉意地说：“你们刚才的话我全听见了，以后我不会这样了，我会好好对待你们的。对不起！”说完后，文具们都笑了。
