Just imagine writing a letter to your future self 5 years from now, then opening it at that exact moment 5 years down the road to see how much of it resonated with you. It is a useful supplementary tool to be used in goal achievement, because when you write the letter to your future self, it helps crystallize exactly how you anticipate yourself to become at that specific moment down the road.

As you read the letter in the future, you can assess how many things match up (or not vs. your expectations in the past and think about why that’s the case. Often times, the goals we set and our goal achievement process are subjected to a lot of changes along the way, due to varying obstacles, unanticipated circumstances and changing priorities. The letter gives you a macro-view of your initial vision and lets you recognize how your current vision differs from the past.

依稀记得爷爷最常提起的就是他们小时候生活的艰苦。他常常说：“我们小时候生活很苦的，常常吃不饱。哪像你们现在啊，天天有吃好的，还挑三拣四的。”每当此时，我就会打断他：“可是有的食物不好吃呀？”“那时候哪还管好不好吃，有的吃就已经很不错了。记得有一次，我和你小爷爷为了一个山芋，晚上从这里跑几里路到占坡去。”“为了一个山芋跑这么远，值得吗？”爷爷笑着说：“哪还管值不值得，就为了肚子。我们从早忙到晚，还是不能填饱肚子。那时候，饿人的.事情是经常发生的……”
也曾在饭桌上，听妈妈说过她小时候的事，有许多不太记得了，但却清楚得记得一件事：妈妈曾因为家里没有钱而和小姨一起退学回家做事。每当茶叶季，她们每天很早起床，爬到很高山上去采茶，傍晚还要背很重的茶叶下山来。这么辛苦的结果就是得到几元甚至几角钱补贴家用。每次说到这些，妈妈都会长长叹一口气。
与爷爷、奶奶，爸爸、妈妈相比，我们的生活可算是幸福到了极点，可我们却“生在福中不知福”。如今，我们不怕哪天会饿肚子，只怕吃不下而让长辈们担心；我们也不怕因交不起学费而辍学，只是因为不能认真学习而让父母、老师操心。想到这些，我不禁有些同情那些长辈了，他们可算是“生不逢时”了。可是，转念一想，如果没有他们以前辛苦劳动打下的基础，哪来我们现在的幸福生活呢！所以我更觉得生活在新时代的我们要珍惜这份来之不易的幸福生活，好好学习，努力奋进，为了明天更幸福的生活做贡献。
评语：本文最大的特点就是采用了对比的写法。在对比中，我们看到了爷爷为了填饱肚子的艰苦生活；看到了妈妈因交不上学费而辍学时的无奈。小作者也是在这种对比中感受到了如今生活的幸福，因而对长辈们产生了感激、崇敬之情，也表达了自己的决心。

Dear Family,
You must be greatly surprised when you get this letter, not from anyone else but from your dearest son, since I have never written a letter for ages in such a traditional way. The purpose of my writing is not so much to express my gratitude for bringing me up, as it is to tell you something about my college life.
It has been more than two years since I started my college life and I have adapted myself to the new environment here, even though at the very beginning, I was not quite used to it. My classmates are pretty friendly and they offer to help me whenever need be, which is really precious for me. My teachers tell me the differences between college life and high school life and give me some necessary advice on how to learn in college. Because of their kind-hearted help, I learn to know the importance of cooperation and communications between each other, especially when in Group work.
In the past several months, I have been busy preparing for TEM 4.Therefore, most of the time, I stayed at school and seldom kept in touch with you; I should have been ashamed of this. But now it is completely finished, and I will never do that again. In my spare time, I usually go to play basketball to keep fit since you always ask me to practice more to keep healthy. What is more, I like to go to the English Corner to practice my spoken English in order to improve my oral English level, which is of importance as English major.

I hope you're married to the man of your dreams. The man of mine is Gwynn. He is originally from South Africa (another place I wish to visit.
You'll probably have two children of your own – a girl(Michaela Anne and a boy (name yet to be decided.If everything goes according to plan you'll be living in Australia in a big house in a small town outside of a big city with a lot of land, a dog, Gwynn and your two beautiful children. Hopefully you have a career in the medical field, maybe doing research in genetics. Gwynn will be a computer programmer and you will be doing alright for yourselves.
However, if things don't go according to plan for you, I wish you all the love, happiness and joy in the world and don't settle for anything less than the best since that is absolutely what you deserve.

有时我会不禁在思考一个问题：文明，离我们到底还有多远?我想远的不说，就离家不远处的那一堆已经发臭了的垃圾，已经在告诉我：文明，只差一步。
“冰冻三尺，非一日之寒。”垃圾之乱，非一人之果。我想，那第一个来倒垃圾的人，也许没有将垃圾倒入桶内，而是倒在了桶旁或者桶盖上。而第二个来倒垃圾的人可能同样岀于某种因素，于是索性也将垃圾扔在桶旁。接下来第三个、第四个……就这样恶性循环下去。难道这仅仅是一个人的过错吗?我想，这是不言而喻的`。其实，文明，有时候真的就只差那么一步。
这样的例子是不胜枚举。譬如，在学校里，老师经常教育学生要养成“讲卫生，爱清洁”的良好卫生习惯，同学们也天天在打扫自己的教室和包干区，可是，乱扔垃圾的现象还是时有发生。教室里，有的学生丢垃圾为了省事，往往会来个远距离“投篮”，第二个同学来扔垃圾，看到了扔在桶旁的垃圾，认为这垃圾不是自己扔的，也视而不见走开了。在这里，我们看到了，其实，文明，只差一步。当然，这并不是说大家不讲文明，只是不注意爱护公共卫生，缺乏爱护公共卫生的文明意识。试想，如果每一位同学都能把学校当成自己的家，还会岀现这种现象吗?
曾看到过一则广告词：“为了大家的温暖，请把车窗关上”我觉得，如果能把广告词中的“大家”改为“您”那收效想必是大不相同的。那么，“文明，只差一步”的现象也一定可以大大改善。
外国人来中国旅游，身上总会带着一个垃圾袋，把自己的垃圾收集起来。可见，文明是随处可见的。
讲文明，就必须不被不良现象所影响，应多做文明事，学做文明人，真正把集体当成自己的家，一个弯腰，一个信步，也许就会大大减少“文明，只差一步”的现象。
为了构建和谐、平安社会，做一个讲文明的社会公民，让我们积极行动起来吧!
