父亲总是把它放在不显眼的地方做其它珠宝的'陪衬品，从没想过要把它卖掉。
不过，一个年轻的小伙子，看起来并不像有钱人家。他路过这里，偏偏看中了这颗蓝宝石。的确，像这么大块的宝石在那个地方是绝无仅有的。
那块宝石足使年青人为它神魂颠倒，年青人总是神情恍惚，使他每天总要来父亲的珠宝店。父亲当然明白这位年轻人是买不起自己店里的任何一件珠宝，但还是热情地招待他。
年青人终于抵抗不住那颗蓝宝石的诱惑，已不满足于欣赏，而想得到那颗诱人的蓝宝石。半夜他偷偷的潜入我父亲的珠宝店，想要把那颗宝石偷走，可是被保安逮个正着。
最后，那年青人因盗窃罪被判入狱。十年之后，当他被放出来的时候，额头上多了几道皱纹，已不像原来那样英俊，潇洒。就好象从青年直接跨入了老年。
这时的他还念念不忘那颗蓝宝石，回到了他熟悉的珠宝店，发现那颗宝石还放在原位，上面还是有厚厚的一层灰。他不知为什么这颗蓝宝石还没卖出去，于是不禁的问起了我的父亲。
“那是颗假的!”父亲答道。
