放学后，我来到操场，一眼就看到了早已等候在那里的父亲。我极不情愿地走了过去，本想告诉他我的想法，但是话到嘴边又吞了回去。因为我知道对于“倔强”的父亲，这是不可能的。我只好走到起跑线，深吸一口气，好把我的沮丧挥去。
“准备——跑！”父亲极认真地说道。我一下子冲出了起跑线，向着渺茫的终点飞奔。开始的一百米还算顺利，但是跑过弯道后，各种疼痛便涌了上来。我努力试着调整自己，但糟糕的是，我不但没调整好，反而又添了个麻烦：供氧不足。于是，我的大脑发涨，双腿变软，速度自然就减慢了许多。
“快跑！快！”父亲的一声催促如军令一般传入我的耳朵。我一机灵，赶快加速。但心中还在抱怨：哼！我这么累，还让我跑！不过想归想，做归做，我终究还是加快了速度，在坚持跑完六百米时，我意识到：该冲刺了。我深吸着气，试图加快速度，但是我的腿犹如灌了铅水一般，怎样努力都无济于事。我摇了摇头，心想：这下可完了！
正当我要放弃的时候，眼前突然闪过一个肥胖的身影。什么？是父亲。只见他向我招手，示意让我追上他，便飞快地跑了起来。我咬牙向他跑去，越来越近，越来越近。终于，我跑到了他的后面，紧追不舍。我凝望着父亲的身影，这普通的'身影一下子高大起来。这身影仿佛是汹涌大海上的一盏航灯，给我带来了希望；这身影仿佛是丛林深路中的一块路标，给我带来了信心；这身影仿佛是无边沙漠中的一泓清泉，给我带来了动力。在这身影的带领下，我忘记了疼痛，忘记了怨恨，终于冲到了终点，冲到了我向往已久的终点。

1975年，中国登山队在珠峰“第二台阶”的地方，架设了一个金属的梯子。到2008年，一共有1300多个中外登山者通过这个梯子圆了自己的“珠峰梦”，它被许多国外的登山家称为“中国梯”。
和共和国同龄的“无腿勇士”夏伯渝老人，曾参与了1975年那次攀登珠峰、架设“中国梯”的过程。但“中国梯”的缘起，其实是受了第一代中国登山运动员的指引。节目中，夏伯渝动情讲述了背后令人肃然起敬的故事。
“第二台阶”位于珠峰北坡约8600米的地方，那是一个30多米高的几乎垂直的峭壁。在上世纪60年代以前，它是从未被人逾越的北坡登顶必经之路。1960年5月25日，中国登山队第一次攀登珠峰，四位突击顶峰的队员王富洲、屈银华、刘连满、贡布到达“第二台阶”之后，凭借着惊人的勇气、智慧和毅力，以搭人梯的方法创造了奇迹。
“中国梯”的雏形无疑是悲壮的。因为登山者的高山靴下绑着尖利冰爪，要搭建人梯，得脱下靴子，他们没有犹豫，为了可以更稳地站在冰锥上，后来索性连毛袜都脱了。短短的一段里程，他们用了一个多小时。甘当“人梯”的刘连满，体力耗费过度，无法前进，其他三人把唯一的氧气瓶留给了他，然后继续冲顶。
就这样，王富洲、屈银华和贡布在没有食品、没有氧气、极其寒冷的严酷条件下，忍受着冻伤的巨大困难，成功从北坡登顶，让五星红旗飘扬在了珠峰之巅，也成为全世界从北坡登顶珠峰的第一批人。86岁的贡布老人回忆，“登上顶峰，我拿出背的国旗升起来，那个时候天气是最好的，国旗飘了！”
喜讯传开，就在群众欢呼雀跃的时候，王富洲、屈银华静静躺在了医院，王富洲登山前160斤，下山时体重101斤，双手因为被冻伤做了截肢手术；屈银华的十个脚趾，两个脚后跟，全部做了截肢手术。
第一代中国登山运动员是勇敢的攀登者，更是精神的引领者，在他们的感召下，一代又一代的登山者，让五星红旗在世界之巅迎风飘扬。贡布老人专门写了“团结起来，振兴中华”八个大字，送给代表着新一代中国登山力量的北京大学珠峰登山队。
对攀登者们而言，五星红旗是团结拼搏的化身，映照着中国人永不言败、砥砺前行的精神。这种精神将永远随着中国人的脚步，屹立在五星红旗飘扬的雪山之上。
