仙人掌是一种植物，是墨西哥的国花。属于石竹目沙漠植物的一个科。由于对沙漠缺水气候的适应，叶子演化成短短的小刺，以减少水分的蒸发，亦能做抵抗动物吞食的武器；茎演化成肥厚含水的形态；同时，它长出覆盖范围非常之大的根，作用是下大雨时可以吸收很多的水分，以抵抗干旱。目前，仙人掌科的植物将近二千零二种。说了这些你知道这种植物为什么叫仙人掌吗？
在沙漠有一些人如果很口渴就可以用小刀把仙人掌切成两半，喝仙人掌里面的水，这样就可以解渴了，因为在干旱的沙漠里可以给人们提供水分，所以称它为仙人，因为他长得像人的手掌又叫仙人掌。
因为仙人掌能舍命救人，所以我喜欢仙人掌。
