二人于是结为知音，并约好第二年再相会论琴。可是第二年伯牙来会钟子期时，得知钟子期不久前已经因病去世。俞伯牙痛惜伤感，难以用语言表达，于是就摔破了自己从不离身的古琴，从此不再抚弦弹奏，以谢平生难得的知音。
这个故事告诉我们：人之相知，贵在知心。
