鸟兽虫鱼由于躯体结构、生理特点不同，因而动作也是千差万别、灵巧多变的。有的在天上飞；有的在地面跑；有的在水里游；有的在树上爬；还有的"能歌善舞"……，要写好鸟兽虫鱼的动态，就要注意仔细观察，抓住它们的动作特点，掌握它们的活动规律。描写的时候，要注意选用恰当的动词。如下面例段：
只见发起一阵狂风。一阵过去了，只听得乱树背后噗的一声响，跳出一只吊睛白额大虫（老虎）来。……那大虫又饥又渴，把两只前爪在地下略按一按，和身往上一扑，从半空里窜将下来。……便把前爪搭在地下，把腰胯一掀，掀将下来。……吼一声，却似半天里起个霹雷，震得那山岗也动，把这铁棒似的虎尾，倒竖起来一剪。……再吼了一声，一兜兜将回来。
这个例段描写的是一场与老虎的搏斗。作者用了跳、按、扑、窜、搭、掀、吼、竖、剪、兜十个动词，把老虎搏斗时一连串的凶猛动作写得活灵活现。
那只狮子大得吓人，形状狰狞可怕。它原是躺在笼里睡觉，这时翻过身，撑起一只爪子，伸了一个懒腰，接着又张开嘴，从容打了一个呵欠，吐出足有两手掌长的舌头，来回舔眼圈上的尘土，干干净净洗了个脸；然后把脑袋伸出笼外，睁着一对火炭似的眼睛四面观看，那副神气，可以使大勇士也会吓得筋酥骨软。
这一段描写的是一只睡狮醒来后的动态，作者恰当地用翻、撑、伸、张、打、吐、舔、洗、伸、睁、看等11个动词，把狮子醒后的动作和神态写得栩栩如生。
嘿，机灵的花猫早就严阵以待，作好了捕鼠的准备。它用那特有的亮晶晶的眼睛看了看我，接着就警惕地注视着前方。只见它前脚趴着，后脚蹲着，腰脊微弓，把脖子伸得长长的，竖着耳朵，两只锐利的眼睛直盯着一个方向，好像老虎就将出现……
