① 明确改写要求。要想把改写文章写好，必须认真审清改写的要求，明确改写后的文章与原文有什么不同。
② 读懂原文。虽然改写是一种再创作，但必须忠实于原文，不能把原文改得面目全非，随意增删大量的内容，那样改弦更辙，也是不符合改写要求的。
③ 讲究改写方法，展开合理想象。以诗歌改写成记叙文为例，主要应做到三点：
A．把握文章的中心思想，展开合理的想象和联想，进行巧妙构思。
B．要对原文做大量的情节、细节的增补工作。如对人物的外貌、心理、语言、行为进行较为细致的刻画；对诗中提供的环境、场面、气氛做必要的充实和渲染，形成完整的符合要求的记叙文。
C．改写要有扩写的基本功。
④在代词和名词的使用上，仔细推敲，使之合于情理和叙述习惯。以转换人称的改写为例，应做到以下三点：
A．要弄清原文中“你”、“我”、“他”等代词所指的对象。
B．改写后的人称一定要准确，不能有遗漏。在名词和代词的使用上，要根据上下文环境，确定用名词或用代词。
C．改变了人称，叙述人的角度就变了，因此，根据具体内容，要增删一些文字和细节。如第一人称改为第三人称后，就可以增加一些人物的心理活动等描写。
