那天，天阴森森的，只有朗朗读书声传出教室。放学了，我和一些朋友来到食堂吃饭。但是我和我的朋友引发了一件恶劣的事情。食堂里同学们窃窃私语，人人脸上洋溢着欢乐的笑容，都文明地吃着饭。
我坐在了自己的'位子上，和同学们谈笑风生，郑?辰坐在我旁边，和我们说说笑笑，他没坐在自己的座位上，坐在了余子尖的位子上。过了许久，余子尖来了，他愁眉苦脸地让郑路成离开他的位子，当他的火已经发到了极点后，他忍无可忍地把汤坚决地洒在了郑路成的脸上，郑?辰的头发像洗了头似的，全湿了。
郑?辰也去泼余子尖，我在一旁站了起来，去掐余子尖的脖子，余子尖也大呼小叫的叫着，其他同学没有像我一样和余子尖吵的，只有我、郑?辰和余子尖在一起互相大骂。我还去推余子尖，但余子尖始终没有还手。
余子尖，我真想对你说：“对不起。”但每当见到你，我就不敢对你说，心似乎受了控制一样，但是我在今日终于鼓起勇气向你说了一声：“对不起。”虽然雨依然下着，但是我和你的友谊地久天长。

Dear Frank:
I am terribly sorry to tell you that I have lost the valuable book you were so kind to lend me last week. I read it everyday and intended to finish it next month. Last night when I came to my room, it was nowhere to be found. I will try to recover it as soon as possible. If I fail to find it, I will get a new book for you.
But I am afraid it can never take the place of the old one. Old books are like old friends. Once lost, they can never be replaced. They are connected with cherished associations which the new ones can never have. And for this irrecoverable loss, I am to blame. I was so careless with my things. This is a warning to me to be more careful in the future.

小克莱门斯特别想得到一块很大很大的面包，因为他从来没有吃过那样诱人的面包。而他的同桌，一个金头发的小姑娘每天都会带着一块这么诱人的面包来到学校。她常常问小克莱门斯要不要尝一口，小克莱门斯每次都坚定地摇头，但他的心是痛苦的。
放学的时候，小克莱门斯对小姑娘说：“明天我也会有一块大面包。”回到家后，小克莱门斯关起门，无比虔诚地进行祈祷，他相信上帝已经看见了自己的表情，上帝一定会被自己的诚心感动的！然而，第二天起床后，当他把手伸进书包的时候，除了一本破旧的课本什么也没有发现。他决定每天晚上坚持祈祷，一定要等到面包降临。
一个月后，金头发的小姑娘笑着问小克莱门斯：“你的面包呢？”
小克莱门斯已经无法继续自己的祈祷了。他告诉小姑娘，上帝也许根本就没有看见自己在进行多么虔诚的祈祷，因为，每天肯定有无数的孩子都进行着这样的祈祷，而上帝只有一个，他怎么会忙得过来？小姑娘笑着说：“原来祈祷的人都是为了一块面包，但一块面包用几个硬币就可以买到了，人们为什么要花费这么多的'时间去祈祷，而不是去赚钱买面包呢？”
小克莱门斯决定不再祈祷。他相信小姑娘所说的正是自己想要知道的—只有通过实际的工作来获得自己想要的东西。而祈祷，永远只能让你停留在等待中。小克莱门斯对自己说：“我不要再为一件卑微的小东西祈祷了。”他带着对生活的坚定信心走向了新的道路。
多年以后，小克莱门斯长大成人，当他用笔名马克·吐温发表作品的时候，他已经是一名为了理想勇敢战斗的作家了。他再没有祈祷上帝，因为在无数个艰难的日子中，他都记着：不要为卑微的东西祈祷！只有奋斗和努力是真实的，只有自己的汗水是真实的。祈祷天堂里的上帝，不如相信真实的自己；祈祷虚无的上帝，不如付出诚实的劳动。
