这本书的题注是“对美国大学本科教育的`反思与展望”。乍一看，似乎是给从事教育事业的人看的，对我们普通的大学生而言，看了之后似乎比较适合发发牢。可是换个角度来看，我们何尝不能以此为针对，弥补所受教育的欠缺呢?
书中所提出的大学教育目标，就是学会表达、学会批判性地思考、培养品德、培养合格公民的素质、学会在多元化校园生活、为全球化社会做准备、培养广泛的兴趣、为职业生涯做好准备等等。
或许在大学中，教育的体制并不尽善尽美，但我们自己又该做出什么样的努力呢?
课堂上、实践活动中，我们是否能勇敢地走到台前，发表自己的独到见解?面对身边乃至社会上有争议的问题，我们是否能做出独立而公正的判断?除了学习专业课程，我们是否能真正做到投身校园的多元文化中去?面对这个联系日趋紧密的世界，面对一切皆有可能的未来，我们是否已经做好了职业、人生的规划?
我想这是作为一个大学生，必须反复拷问自己的问题。
