these young people are wrong. in my opinion every student should have a knowledge of housework. after all, they will have a family of their own, and they should do their part in keeping a good home. boys should also learn to do housework, for what will they do if they remain single? though not all boys remain single, yet they will be very helpful in the family if they know some housework. anyhow they will not lose anything, but, on the contrary, they will gain something useful.
for what i said above, we can find some eamples of our fellow-students studying abroad. all young men do housework as girls do. someone would argue that we can employ servants. this is true. however, what shall we do if the servant leaves us and all things are left to ourselves? we just cannot leave our clothes as they are and let worms and ants eat them up. and what can we do it we go and study in a foreign country where servants are out our means to employ? we must work for ourselves. why not start to learn to do housework now or else it will be too late? everyone should learn to do housework. what do you think about my idea, boys and girls?

读《基因传》前我对基因的认知少之又少，虽然会常常惊叹于生活中某些家庭成员外貌、性格、行为的高度一致性，但是从来没有深究其原因，也没有意识到科幻片出现的基因变异怪物离我们并不遥远。悉达多·穆克吉在这本书里按照时间顺序，详细讲述了基因理论的起源、发展和未来，也花了大量篇幅介绍基因理论发展背后科学家们的斗争、合作与艰辛。
基因理论的起源
在基因理论萌芽前，欧洲一直信奉神学，认为世界万物都是上帝创造的，就连当时提出“物竞天择，适者生存”、拥有一定社会地位的达尔文也不敢公开质疑物种的起源。但是达尔文在非洲考察收集动植物样本后，发现物种的多样性，同一品种的鸟类为适应不同的生存环境逐渐进化成外表差异显著的物种。进化论的提出反应了当时人类已经开始思考“who am I ？”。
与达尔文同时期的孟德尔就没有那么好的运气与名望，每次参加高校教师职级考试都以失败结束，可以说是屡败屡战，屡战屡败的典范了。然而，就是这个职业生涯被命运捉弄的神教工作者揭示了伟大的遗传定律。孟德尔通过培育各种特征的豌豆，几十年如一日，记录不同性状的豌豆杂交后的特征，有些性状是显性遗传，有些则是隐性遗传，孟德尔归纳总结得出：存在某种不可分割的最小因子决定着生物所有遗传特性，这个最小因子就是基因。
基因理论的发展
达尔文的进化论和孟德尔的遗传定律像打开了生物学大门的钥匙，一大批科学家开始涌入生物学领域，生物学研究进入快速发展阶段。格里菲斯通过肺炎细菌转化实验证明里DNA是遗传物质，沃森克里克发现了DNA双螺旋结构的中心法则，桑格发明了DNA的测序方法，一些科学家通过遗传疾病定位到突变基因。
事物都有两面性，有好的一面一定也会存在坏的一面。基因理论曾被一些极端分子扭曲利用，对一些无辜者造成了不可磨灭的伤害。美国在20世纪曾大肆鼓吹“优生学”，无知的政府、学者认为优秀的父母必定能够生出优秀的孩子，而那些没有受到多少教育、精神状况不好的父母所生的小孩智商一定不高，并且以后小孩的精神状态也会跟他的父母一样，他们信奉遗传学中的“马太效应”。美国有些洲竟然将“优生学”编入法律法规，对某些妇女及其子女进行了绝育手术，残忍的剥夺了他们的生育权。德国的纳粹分子也是极端基因论的产物，他们试图通过种族灭绝的'方式避免自己的“高贵”统被“污染”。基因的发现带来了生物学的革命，而革命总是伴随着雨腥风。
基因理论的未来
人类认识到基因在遗传中扮演着及其重要的角色，很多家族遗传疾病是由于染色体中的基因发生突变引发的，部分遗传领域学家已经可以定位到某些遗传疾病的致病基因，理想的情况下只需将致病基因切除掉，替换成健康正常的基因就能治愈困扰了几代人的家族遗传疾病。然后这种简单粗暴的方式将违背伦理，如果人类可以自由修改自己的遗传基因，几十万年的进化可能只需在一天内完成，美好远景的外衣下可能隐藏着巨大的危机，基因技术将带来很多不可控的因素。
虽然基因技术现在仍然面临着很多争议，但是我相信先进的技术总是在不断摸索、犯错、修正中螺旋式前进的，科学家们将为我们揭示更多基因的奥秘，我们人类也将能够更好的掌握自己的命运！
