有个年轻人，有一天，因为心情不好，他走出了家门，漫无目的地到处去闲逛，不知不觉地他来到了森林深处。在这里他听到了婉转的鸟鸣，看到了美丽的花草，他的心情渐渐好转，他徜徉着，感受着生命的美好和幸福。
忽然，他的身边响起了呼呼的风声，他回头一看，吓得魂飞魄散，原来是一头凶恶的老虎正张牙舞爪地扑过来。他拔腿就跑，跑到一棵大树下，看到树下有个大窟窿，一棵粗大的树藤从树上深入窟窿里面，他几乎不假思索，抓住树藤就滑了下去，他想，也许这里是最安全的，能躲过劫难。
他松了口气，双手紧紧抓住树藤，侧耳倾听外边的动静，并时不时地伸出头去看看。那只老虎在四周踱来踱去，久久不肯离去。年轻人那颗悬着的心又紧张了起来，他不安地抬起头来，这一看又叫他吃了一惊，一只尖牙利齿的松鼠在不停地咬着树藤，树藤虽然粗大，可它经得住松鼠咬多久呢?他下意识地低头看洞底，真是不得了!洞底盘着四条大蛇，一直瞪着眼睛，嘴里摇卷着长长的信子。
恐惧感从四面八方袭了过来，他悲观透了。爬出去有老虎，跳下去有毒蛇，上不得，也下不得，想这么不上也不下吧，却有只松鼠在咬树藤，他甚至已经听到了树藤被咬之处的咔吧咔吧欲断未断的响声。
故事说到这里。朋友们也许已经悟出了，这个故事并不是人生的特殊个例，也不是人生的具体写实，而是人生境遇的一个比喻。那只老虎不是别的，其实是无常;那只松鼠是时间;那四条大蛇是人生无法逃避的生、老、病、;那根藤就是我们的生命线。
老虎存在于这个世界上是无疑的，正如灾害，正如烦恼，正如天外飞来的横祸。这些不测总是要来到人间的。是来到你的面前，还是来到他的面前，是碰到一次，还是常常碰到，这也许有一定的偶然性。

其实人生就是这么一个苦味的窟窿。人被从母体赶出来，就被驱赶到这个窟窿里来了，人生在生、老、病、这种苦境之外，还有许多意想不到的挫折和打击，也许你常常被苦难紧紧盯住。那么你准备怎么办呢?

年轻人想：悬挂不动已经是不可能的了，树藤已经不让你悬了;跳下去绝无生路，那是个胡同，连逃的地方也没有;可是外面呢，有可怕的老虎，但是也还有鸟鸣，有花香。年轻人在想，难道这就是人生的宿命?冥冥之中，他听到一个声音在喊：别怕，跑吧。
于是他不再做多余的考虑，一把一把向上攀登，他终于爬到了地面，看到那只老虎在树底下闭目养神(是的，苦难也有闭上眼睛的时候，他瞅住这个机会，拔腿狂奔，终于摆脱了老虎回到了家。
也许我们能力确实有限，也许我们的厄运真的无法摆脱，但是我们用不着绝望，我们逃不脱生、老、病、，我们逃不脱有限的岁月，但是我们可以逃得脱老虎，逃得脱人生迎面而来的灾难。面对不幸，挫折和打击，我们可以跑，可以奋斗。羚羊摆脱狮子追击的办法是跑得比狮子还快，这就是生路。所谓生路，就是人生之路。
这个故事看似简单，可是它的含义却很深刻。它所要赐给我们的是一种大无畏的精神，以及一种深层次的悟性。也就是说，我们必须学会掌握自己的人生。不要被随时会来的各式各样的威胁，而畏缩。前怕狼后怕虎不是做人的道理。真正做人的道理是要懂得，灵活运用我们的智慧，去排除一切危难。让自己懂得，如何闯出一条条新的人生之路来。
