当我读完德国女作家赫塔米勒所有作品，当我读完加拿大女作家爱丽丝门罗所有作品，当我读完美国黑人女作家托妮·莫里森所有的作品，当我读完英国女作家弗吉尼亚·伍尔芙所有的作品，不知道为什么，我对中国作家产生很多无法原谅的偏见，而且不只是偏见。
中国作家（李娟、萧红 除外）仍然停留在善于讲故事，善于哄读者听故事或者依赖讲故事依赖强大得无边无际的生活叙述来吸引读者的层面。他们习惯了让故事自己站出来说话，必要的时候让故事出来为他们卖命，为他们冲锋陷阵，为他们个人的利益效劳。而他们自己却躲在安全稳妥可靠的硬壳里充当生活的摄像头，靠模拟组装雕刻各种扭曲的畸形的怪异的文字游戏，靠向读者重复推销兜售所谓探寻人性幽暗处的故事以期获得读者的瞩目，而广大读者在他们身上却看不到一个作家所应有的修养，或者对社会那种向上的斩钉截铁的不吱吱扭扭的推动力。作为中国读者为了出于某种利益需要因素，不得不把中国的作家当做作家看。
一个作家，你的文字写的再好，你的故事讲得在伟大，如果你不能动用你的尖锐和深刻去揭露故事背后的根源性，不能化腐朽为力量，而只能一窝蜂地在故事会里凑热闹，必要的时候却不能给麻木扭曲却又不知好歹的社会一记响亮的耳光 ，或者你的文学性、美学性、哲学性、思想性、艺术性不能令世界瞩目，那么你只能算是一个合格的、合法的、合理的、合情的，但没有灵魂的作家。尽管你以为自己是作家，尽管你的付出和努力值得读者同情和理解。
中国不缺少文字游戏，更不缺少那故事当娱乐消遣。一个作家如果一味沉浸在古怪的反常的有悖道德伦理的故事的深渊里，而不去唤醒麻木的人性，不去坚守社会道德与良知底线，而一味地任其被愚昧和无知屡屡突破，那他们就是一群会呼吸会说话会思考的打印机，说的更严重一些，那他就是在亵渎，在犯罪。
作家拯救社会虽然有一定的局限性 ，但也不能袖手旁观，看生活的热闹。你讲了一个或者贡献一个普遍存在或者迟早会发生的故事不等于你尽到了一个作家应尽的职责，也不等于你履行了一个作家应尽的义务。作为一群对生活望尘莫及的群体，生存就是他们的全部，他们没有多余的时间去捞取娱乐、消遣和审美对他们的施舍。你们对生活热衷于报喜不报忧的临摹和渲染对他们是那么无关紧要和微不足道。我们的作家多么倾向于把负轭前行的苦民当成作家娱乐的筹码和捞取荣耀的资本。别让心灵的指路人只剩下不加选择的娱乐和不折手段的成功。一个读者牺牲了养家糊口的时间来读你们的书，却不可能从你们的思索中感受到生存根基的猛烈震动，那么人们只能把你们当成一群无聊的软体动物。你们用无所顾忌的懈怠和对心灵的不作为来混饭吃，这不得不全都归功于我们的民众盲目的顺从、没有理性的妥协和不假思索的'宽容。
环境污染了，铺天盖地的作家都出来一窝蜂地对污染指手画脚，请问在还没污染之前你们都去哪了，你们不会说由于时间仓促 ，还没来得及打草稿吧。我也知道你们会用自己的笔杆子写下一千万个理由对付我。但不管你们文字的力量多么强大，你们究竟逃避了什么？担心什么？害怕什么？顾虑什么？作为一个读者我心里不能没有数。你们可以笑我愚昧、麻木，但我不傻。
一个作家不只是以出书为目的，也不只是为了让读者永远有故事可读或者一味地取悦读者，也不应该让读者永远活在故事里，他在关注社会状况和个体心理遭遇的同时，还应当让民众感觉到那些作家在与我们负轭前行。
我们不需要一个只会讲故事写文章的作家，我们需要比故事和生活更重要的东西。我只是说了一个喜欢读书的人想要说的话。虽然观点不成熟或者欠考虑，但是却是我内心真真正正最最想说的话。
如果你不是一个心灵的领路人，你不折手段盘踞在作家富豪排行榜上除了满足你那点私人的狂欢，对广大民众又有什么用呢？你说你对写作的执拗不是出于反复无常，而是一种病态的喜欢，这又有什么意义哪？泛滥的文字对倾向于私人的宣泄趋之若鹜，对中国式的堂吉诃德视而不见或熟视无睹。我们为什么总是对至上而下的顾虑和无视底线的顺从有一种不合常理的忽略和忍耐。为了取悦于别人的自我和私人的娱乐而忽视了对心灵的指引，这绝不是普罗大众所希望的。
