又有一天，不知从何处来了一头野猪，窜到这楚人家的地里去糟蹋庄嫁。于是，楚人又将老虎模型预先埋伏在草丛之中，同时派自己的儿子手执利戈，守候在大路上。一切安排就绪以后，他就让那些在地里干活的人齐声大喊，吓得那头野猪赶紧往草丛中逃生，可是在那里又看到了老虎模型，于是又折转身来，往大路上奔去，结果就被守候在大路上的儿子给抓获了。
有了这两次经历以后，楚人兴奋异常，他以为凭着这个老虎模型就可以降伏天下所有的野兽了。恰在此时，野外又发现了一种形状像马的动物，这位楚人立即带上老虎模型前往驱赶它。
有些见多识广的人出面劝阻楚人：“这种形状像马的动物就是‘駮’(bo呀，它连真的老虎都会吃掉，你又何必带个假的老虎模型去送呢?你这样去是要遭殃的!”可是楚人却听不进这善意的劝告，依然孤身前往。他到了野外之后，只见那像马的駮吼声如雷，一下子就冲到了楚人面前，迅速踢翻了他带去的老虎模型，接着就用前爪将楚人抓住，拼命撕咬，不一会儿就将楚人咬了，脑浆溅了一地。
这个楚人制造了一个老虎模型，本来是只能用来吓唬狐狸和野猪一类并不强大的敌手的。可是他却错误地以为老虎模型无往不胜，结果在遇上了真正的强敌之后，只能落得个粉身碎骨的可悲下场。
