“葫芦”就是张红路。她的笑声与众不同，总是“咯咯，嘿嘿，哈哈”的，颇有韵律，常常引得别人也跟着笑起来。初二时，我和她同桌。我俩前边坐着班上大名鼎鼎的滑稽鬼谢斌，尽出洋相，逗得“葫芦”笑个不停。这个整天嘻嘻哈哈的小疯丫头，好像从来不知道什么是忧愁。
我喜欢“葫芦”不仅仅因为她笑得甜美，还因为她是文艺之神缪斯的宠儿。她弹得一手好琵琶，我听过她弹《春江花月夜》，那醉人的琴声至今仍在我脑海中萦绕。她也爱唱歌，嗓音圆润、柔和，《清晨》一曲，唱得尤为出色。她还爱跳舞，新中国建国三十五周年大庆活动中，她是我们班集体舞的小教练。
但是，有一天，这个似乎从来不知忧愁滋味的姑娘，脸上却笼罩了一层愁云。那天要考语文。早晨，同学们坐在座位上，人人面对一本语文书，不停地念呀背呀。可“葫芦”却一声不吭，默默地做几何题。我不由得轻声问道：“复习完语文啦？”“葫芦”抬起头，脸上泛起一层阴云，没有回答。这是我第一次没有从她脸上找到笑容，于是我又问：“你怎么啦”“我妈挡住屋门，不让我拿语文书。”她说，语调是那么压抑。我不知所措，慌忙把自己的语文课本推了过去。她向我点了点头，嘴角掠过一丝感激的微笑，但一闪便消失了。
这使我想起一件往事：有一回，戴彬趴在桌上，肩膀一耸一耸地，谁劝也不行。“葫芦”凑过去，在她耳边低声细语。不大一会儿，戴彬抬起头，擦干了泪水。“这就对了，别耍小孩儿脾气了，我的‘娇小姐’，笑一笑。”“葫芦”在引逗她，戴彬果然破涕一笑。
现在，这个自己从来达观乐天，而且又善于为别人分忧解愁的.姑娘，究竟发生了什么事？遭受了什么难言的痛苦？我被关进了“闷葫芦”。
一个偶然的机会，帮我打开了“闷葫芦”。作文课上，老师出的题目是《自传》。经“葫芦”允许，我拿过她的作文本。原来，她上小学三年级时，妈妈得了精神病，后来爸爸又被判五年徒刑。家里，就靠她照顾患病的妈妈。精神病人喜怒无常，“葫芦”为了让妈妈高兴，常陪她到公园散步，但一路上却往往无端地挨骂。唉，“幸福的家庭是相似的，不幸的家庭却各有各的不幸”，我真替“葫芦”感到委屈。可是，我更从心底里佩服她，她在自传中写道：“只要地球还转，我就要笑着生活下去。”
的确，她是笑着生活的。她从音乐旋律中获得了安慰，从文学形象中汲取了力量。有一次，我俩在幽静的小花园中散步，谈到夏洛蒂?勃朗特的《简?爱》。“我喜欢简?爱，她不漂亮，但有个性，勇于和命运搏斗……”“葫芦”一边沉思一边轻轻地说，美丽的大眼睛里闪着坚毅的光芒，长长的睫毛在微微颤动。
红路坚强的性格像简?爱，但她的命运毕竟与孤儿院中长大的简?爱不同。她遇到了另一位“好妈妈”——班主任武老师。武老师帮她管理生活费，什么时候添置鞋袜，星期天怎样度过，都替她想到了。她还有另一个“家庭”——学校，学校破例允许这个初中生住宿，每逢佳节，同学们便凑钱买些生活必需品送给她，一双布鞋，一条毛巾被，东西虽少，情义却重。
红路满十五周岁了，同学们聚在宿舍里向她祝贺生日。夏雪把一个粉红色纱裙的洋娃娃举到她面前：“看，她笑得多甜，和你一样，让她陪着你吧。”刘颖送给她一本蝴蝶信笺和一些邮票，楼着她的肩膀低声说：“收下吧。给爸爸妈妈写信用得着。”小小的房间里充满青春的活力，“葫芦”笑得更美更甜了。春风把笑声吹出窗口，洒向校园，洒向远方。
