Just imagine writing a letter to your future self 5 years from now, then opening it at that exact moment 5 years down the road to see how much of it resonated with you. It is a useful supplementary tool to be used in goal achievement, because when you write the letter to your future self, it helps crystallize exactly how you anticipate yourself to become at that specific moment down the road.

As you read the letter in the future, you can assess how many things match up (or not vs. your expectations in the past and think about why that’s the case. Often times, the goals we set and our goal achievement process are subjected to a lot of changes along the way, due to varying obstacles, unanticipated circumstances and changing priorities. The letter gives you a macro-view of your initial vision and lets you recognize how your current vision differs from the past.

一阵风吹过来打破了车上的喧哗，不一会儿车上爆发出哄笑“哈哈”“哈哈”原来是一位女士的假发掉了，露出光秃秃的头顶，样子滑稽极了，不知道为什么，我心里好像有什么在翻转，并没有笑出声来。看着那位女士尴尬的坐在那，手里紧握着她的包，眼睛里滚动着了泪水，我知道一定是什么怪病夺走她的头发，当时心里什么也没想，走过去拾起她的'假发，拍去灰尘，放在她的手里：“祝你早日康复，长出头发来。”她抬起头用感激的目光看着我轻轻地说了声：“谢谢。”（这是我听到最真挚最深刻的谢谢）车到站了她要下车了，车上一片安静，刚刚笑的人都低下了头，让出了一条路，那位女士在下车前看了我一眼说了些什么，可太远了我听不见。
公共交车开动了，她还站在那，直到我看不见她。

有一次，我数学考砸了。我蹑手蹑脚地回到家，忘记跟正在做饭的妈妈打招呼，便急冲冲地反锁了房间的门，偷偷摸摸地把试卷藏在柜桶里，赶紧把家庭作业拿出来做。到了晚上，我正庆幸卷子没被发现，这时，房间里传来“母老虎”的咆哮声。我的心立刻没了底，卷子是瞒不住了，只好老老实实地向“母老虎”交代了事情的来龙去脉。我偷偷地向上一瞥，结果吓得我仿佛体内的东西全移了位：妈妈怒目圆睁地瞪着可怜巴巴的我，头发则成了爆炸头，像刺猬遇袭后保护自己的样子，头发像针一般竖起来，又像无数根长矛对准我……从此，我不敢再犯同样的错误。
再有一次。我的数学得了满分，我欣喜若狂，仿佛一抬腿就能到家，把这个好消息告诉爸爸妈妈。但我回到家后，妈妈却因我做作业不仔细训了我一顿，我委屈到了极点，把白花花的测验卷从书包中抽出，往桌子上一摊。妈妈挤了挤眼，看到鲜红的”100分”。在她整个人”脱胎换骨”那一瞬间，我真想唱一首歌，以表达我心中的喜悦。妈妈简直成了老顽童，伸出双手，想把我捧到天上似的。晚风也来凑热闹，“呼——”，妈妈的头发从我脸上拂过。那头发似乎飘出从未有过的`芳香，在我身边围绕着。光滑的秀发在灯光照耀下闪闪发光。
我突然提出要帮妈妈梳头。妈妈欣然同意了。梳着梳着，才发现，妈妈的头发不如以前那么美丽了，时常会打结，痛得妈妈嗷嗷直叫。梳着梳着，视线中多出了几根刺眼的白发。妈妈为了我，花了多少心？我情不自禁地想到了妈妈“恨铁不成钢”的模样，“鼓舞我向前进”的模样，“像孩子一样兴高采烈”的模样……
啊，母亲的头发见证了我的成长。
