狮子刚一走，老虎就让狐狸通知飞禽走兽集中开会。老虎洋洋自得地在会上宣布：“我辛苦为大家工作，没时间觅食，食品由大家供给。第一天，请鸡族献一对鸡，第二天请鹿族献上一对鹿，第三天请兔族献上一对兔，第四天请羊族献一对羊羔，第五天请猪族……”就这样，在以后的日子里，各家族都哭哭啼啼地献上了自己的亲属以饱狮子的口福。可整个森林沉浸在一片阴森恐怖之中。
过了些日子，狮子回来了。它看见大家一个个有的垂头丧气，有的悲痛欲绝，有的以泪洗面，有的眼睛变得又红又肿……狮子百思不得其解，疾步上前，询问子民们到底发生了什么事情。动物们见爱民如子的狮子回来了，就含着泪水把这几天老虎掌管大权的所作所为一字不落地告诉了狮子。
狮子一听，怒吼一声：“岂有此理！”可一想，老虎是自己的好朋友，应该不会这么做吧。于是，狮子决定查探一下虚实。
狮子见老虎还不知道自己回来了，就埋伏在森林里观察老虎的动静，并看到了动物们报告的情景完全属实，它看透了老虎的狼子野心，勃然大怒。狮子也没和动物们商量，当机立断，准备惩治老虎。它突然冲到老虎的面前，看到老虎大摇大摆的样子，更是怒火中烧。狮子一针见的指控了老虎的罪恶行径。老虎见自己原形毕露，无计可施，就向狮子求饶。可狮子主意已决，哪肯饶它，跳上前去把老虎了。
老虎得到了应有的下场，动物们欢天喜地。从此，森林又恢复了往日的平静。

老虎看见小白兔这么听话，不禁起了疑心，他对小白兔说：“你先走几步试试看，本大王再过来。”
小白兔嘴里带着一丝微笑说：“是。”
小白兔走上了“小木桥”，当他走到“桥”中心时，老虎又说：“小白兔，在‘桥’中心跳跳。”
小白兔听到老虎要他在“桥”中心跳，知道老虎对自己起了疑心，就不停地在“桥”中心跳。老虎看见小白兔在“桥”上跳了这么久也没出事，就对小白兔说：“好了，快停下来走回去，不要挡着本大王。”
小白兔听到老虎这样说，心里很高兴，因为老虎已经对他消除了疑心。他停下来，乐津津地走了回去。当老虎走到“桥”中心时，忽然，“桥”断了，老虎掉进了山崖里，一命呜呼。
原来，小白兔选了一根被虫蛀蚀过的朽木做“桥”，因为自己身子轻，“桥”断不了；而老虎体重，“桥”承受不住，所以断了，他掉进了山崖。
